On March 6th 2021 Keri and I are thrilled to be participating in the 9th Annual Cartersville Dances with the Stars event I would like to take a moment to share with you about the two charities that benefit from this event. The Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter provides emergency shelter as well as physical, emotional, and spiritual support to homeless men, women, and families in our community. All of their guests must be drug and alcohol free and either looking for work... or working. In 2020 they will help more than 600 people find jobs, save money, and secure new places to call home. Good Neighbor also serves 11 families in Transitional Housing who are working and taking classes at local community colleges to prepare for living wage employment and improve their children’s future. Each day about 80 people are being sheltered through their programs including nearly 40 children under the age of 18. The Homeless Education Programs in our City and County Schools help care for the nearly 600 children in our systems that will experience some period of homelessness this school year. They also support the Backpack Buddies program which sends backpacks of kid-friendly food home with children each weekend who are at high risk to come back to school hungry on Monday otherwise. Because of Cartersville Dances with the Stars the school homeless liaisons are able to provide school supplies and clothing for homeless children as well as tutoring and counseling services. We have committed to raise at least $5,000 by March 6th for these two worthy causes. At the event they will give away a Judges Choice award to the couple who dances best, and then a People’s Choice award to the celebrity who raises the most for these causes.
