Contrary to popular belief, "Black History Month" was not "given" to the African American community. It was created by Carter G. Woodson (1875-1950) and was first recognized in 1926 as, "Negro History Week", during the 2nd week of February. This week was chosen because it coincided with the birthdays of President Abraham Lincoln (2/12), credited with signing the Emancipation Proclamation, and Abolitionist Frederick Douglass (2/14), a former slave. By 1970, the Black Unite...d Students of Kent State (OH) replaced "Negro History" with "Black History", and helped with its expansion to a month-long recognition. In 1976, President Gerald Ford included the recognition of Black History Month in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence or America's Bicentennial Celebration. CBC is about to AMP UP with the streaming of the Sunday morning services. We're not going "state of the art", but at least, improving on the state of OUR art! NEW mics and cameras are about to, soon, be put into place to help improve the worship experience during the social distancing in our homes. Thank you for your patience during the adjustment process when you've questioned if either your eyes, ears, or BOTH were going bad!
