Each resident at Augusta Transition Center has an opportunity to build a foundation. Everyone has been through "something ", it's what we do with that "experience", that matters today.

Augusta Transition Center has temporally canceled trips to Walmart for residents. They have partnered with an outside vendor to provide "some" food items. Its difficult to be optimistic with this procedure when the prices would be considered as "gauging ", during this Covid-19 pandemic. Points to ponder would be, did Augusta Transition Center seek prices on products from several vendors? If an outside vendor was sought and the situation explained could a vendor not being wi...lling to assist 230 men, and offer reasonable pricing verses inflated prices. Residents here are to reduce barriers as they work and attempt to save to have a successful transition. Residents have always been allowed previously to shop at Walmart, where prices for example: Walmart. Vendor 12 oz. Inst. Coffee $4.58. 3oz Inst. Coffee $4.00 Ramen Soup. .17. Ramen Soup. .65 What do you think?

Augusta Transition Center is for men that are in the Georgia Department of Corrections that have met the criteria to be allowed the privilege to gain employment and work while they are completing the last 12 +/- months of their sentence. This is to reduce barriers and ease the burden of being released without safe housing, or having to find a job once released. Once here the men are "Residents",they should not be called by any other name that's common within the system as i...nmate, convict, etc. Unbeknown to the average citizen, men here: * Pay Rent - it is calculated at 30% of net income with a Maximum of $90.00 weekly; * Transportation by Valdosta Mobility to go to and from work, this is a Contract Service set up by Augusta Transition Center and residents pay a flat fee of $20.00 per day. Regardless of how close or how far there job is, this requires residents to leave out an hour before normally scheduled time to arrive at work as Van's carry multiple men to work at different jobs, as well men have to wait up to two hours for the Van's to pick them up upon getting off work. This cost on average is $100.00 to $140.00 per week, bringing average cost now to $230.00 weekly. * Residents are to wash their own clothes once working using Washing and Dryer Machines provided by Contract Services at a cost of $1.00 to wash and $1.00 to dry; *Residents are provided meals here, which are cooked at Augusta State Medical Prison and transported here and served, this at no cost. We'll continue to share life at Augusta Transition Center!

Augusta Transition Center has temporarily suspended the residents from going to Walmart for food and basic needs Weekly due to Covid-19. Vending Machines are not cost effective for residents trying to build a financial foundation to Transition out of system and be self supportive. It's like encouraging someone to use Convenience Stores for shopping. Please pray for Administrators and Department of Correctionns Commissioner's as they develop procedures. That the residents should be allowed reasonable prices for basic needs and food items, and not be governed by vendor pricing that lines the pockets of others off the residents expence.

2 Corinthians 11:4 New International Version 4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different ...spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. We have to be diligent of our faith more than ever. Especially when you can’t have corporate worship and meet to hear the word of God with a group of believers. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to become focused on those things of God when you don’t have that human to human reaction. Video is nice but it lacks what hug can do, what a handshake can do. Since this out break has become worse and they want people to shelter in place we as a society will have a tendency gravitate towards other things. God is here and our focus needs to be on Him. But the devil has such a foot hold in our society that every time your turn your head he is there. God can be more present in your life if you let Him you have to let Him though. Our focus cant be on our situation even though you cant leave you can praise Him and read His word to help your mind stay and sane as He needs you to be in the Trying times.

Transition is a time of change, adjustments, acceptance. Upon arriving here one should be willing. Things are not always as they should be, could be or want them to be. Will not always go as planned, staff and residents each have goals though not always in line with each other. Starting a new job is a Transition for anyone, adjusting to a new schedule, planning and preparation to leave early enough to ride the required transportation service, yet again you may possible ...wait extended amounts of time and then ride to transport several others before you reach your destination. At times you will again wait extended times once you return from working long hours, standing to simply get into building as each resident must go through required security searches upon returning. Your peace and Serenity will be equally proportionate to your acceptance of things as they are not as you would have them to be - daily surrendering to God, prayer and trusting him. Residents are only here for a season of time, some are released early, some are not, some cause daily havoc while others seek to sow seeds of hope and encouragement. This is a journey not a final destination.
