It only took Delaeni touching peanut butter then her eye for them to discover her severe allergy to peanuts. Her whole face swelled up and her eyes swelled shut. This was at 10 months old. It took them by complete surprise as they have no family history of allergies. Now, Delaeni is 10 years old and she has made the choice to do OIT. They moved here from Minneapolis about 3 years ago and were optimistic when her mom found out about Dr. Chacko and OIT online. When Madden was a young baby, he showed signs of eczema and asthma. When he was close to two years old, he swelled up immediately from touching a peanut to his lips. He was diagnosed with both peanut and tree nut allergies. His family had to learn to read labels and avoid anything that may contain peanuts or tree nuts. With two other young children and Madden going off to school came lots of stress and worry. Once he started school, he had to sit at a table during lunch call...ed the peanut table. After joining a Facebook OIT group, Madden’s mom learned that there is treatment out there to help safeguard for accidental exposure. This led her to Dr. Chacko. She drives to Alpharetta from Athens, Georgia every two weeks so Madden can receive treatment. The thing that Madden is most excited about is to go on playdates and go to his friend’s birthday parties just like his sister already does. Welcome to the family Julia A normal day at the beach when she was 18 months old turned into a life changing experience! They were having a nice relaxing day until Julia ate some of the raisins out of a trail mix. Her face and throat immediately broke out in hives and she began coughing. It completely took them by surprise since they have no known allergies in the family. Over the next few months her reaction became more severe. They spent the next 6 months thoroughly readin...g every label and constantly washing their hands. They avoided peanuts until her 2-year-old checkup at her pediatrician. They heard about Dr. Chacko and OIT through a friend at their church whose child was already a patient.They waited until Julia said that she was ready to do the treatment and then they made an appointment. She began her treatment in September 2019. Her mom feels there needs to be more education out there on severe food allergies because ignorance can be fatal.
