Atlanta First United Methodist had been searching for a development partner for almost two-years. Rev. Jasmine Smothers, lead pastor, said, "We believe this redevelopment is a gift we can give our city as we continue our mission of service. We wanted to be able to both highlight that beautiful historic sanctuary but also create an urban-friendly footprint that could achieve affordable housing."

The city envisions the area, now filled with fast-food restaurants, a Target center and acres of asphalt, as one day being redeveloped into a thriving urban district to complement CHOA and Emory University’s massive developments.

The Freedom Pines Fuel plant, run by fuel technology startup LanzaJet, converts sustainably sourced ethanol into "sustainable aviation fuel" using a patented chemical process.
