Hurricane Sally Preparation September 16, 2020 When we anticipate events such as Hurricane Sally, we do a number of things to prepare. Our storm preparation began yesterday: We will do our part and we ask citizens to do their part We are preparing for high winds that may bring down trees, limbs, and traffic signals... We are preparing for heavy rain and potential flooding as we are under a flash flood watch until Friday morning We are not so concerned about the Riverwalk flooding because it is designed to flood but ask citizens to do their part and stay away from the Riverwalk, if flooding occurs, and certainly stay away from creeks and flooded streets. High winds can bring down trees, tree limbs, power lines and traffic signals. Citizens should be vigilant, be alert, watch for these things and only travel during these events, if necessary. Essential CCG employees will be on call and prepared to work, day and night to remove trees, limbs, traffic signals, place barricades out to close flooded streets and render aid to citizens. We have a number of streets known to flood and we have them on what we refer to as a hot list. Those streets and water sheds were inspected yesterday. We check streets on the hotspot list and watersheds prior to heavy rain events to make sure inlets are clear of debris and watersheds are clear of obstruction that might hinder the flow of water. 311 will be answering calls through the night on Wednesday and Thursday nights, as necessary Public Works, Engineering and other city resources will be dispatched through 311 and 911 for flooding concerns, trees, and limbs down, traffic signals down and other issues or concerns. The mayor has communicated with Red Cross in the event we receive evacuees from areas outside of Columbus. We cannot stress enough to citizens, during events like Hurricane Sally, stay in and stay safe. Remember to call 311 for non-emergencies and 911 for emergencies.
