It's Albus' lucky day! Before coming to Animal Services, this hearing impaired pup had spent most of his life on a chain, but thanks to Renegade Paws Rescue he ...got to go home with a very special foster. His new caregiver has plenty of experience working with deaf dogs and will be training him using hand signals! You can check out his progress on instagram #albauntethered See more

Eight very happy dogs took a freedom ride to Florida yesterday thanks to a cooperative effort between Animal Services, Fixing the Boro, and Renegade Paws Rescue. The transport to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society was coordinated by Renegade Paws with Fixing the Boro driving the six puppies and two dogs to their destination. Thanks to everyone who worked together to get these guys out of the shelter and one step closer to finding a home!

FOSTERING SAVES LIVES! Millie got a new "leash" on life when she was welcomed into the home of Sara Dietrich, a foster with Renegade Paws Rescue. Millie is heartworm positive and came into the shelter emaciated and sick. Now she will have a chance to live her life to the fullest- Renegade will provide the heartworm treatment and Ms. Dietrich will provide the love until Millie finds her furever family. If you are interested in adopting Millie, visit the Renegade Paws web page at https://www.renegadepawsrescue.org/ Animal Services works together with many local rescues to help dogs in need. For more information on how to become a foster through one of our partners, call us at (912) 652-6575 or you can contact the rescue of your choice directly.

PUPDATE: ADOPTED!! Seniors have so much love to give! Ask anyone who has adopted one, and they will tell you how rewarding it is to own a senior pet. Because of his age, Mike is far less likely to be adopted than other dogs. Won't someone give this sweet old man a chance? If you are interested in meeting Mike, call us at (912) 652-6575 to schedule an appointment.

PUPDATE: ADOPTED! Griffin is such a good boy, but he has barely gotten any attention on our adoption floor. He has been waiting to find a home since September, even though he is the perfect dog. Griffin is about 2 years old, walks well on a leash, sits and waits patiently for treats, shakes, and plays fetch. He is very playful, but has a calm and sweet disposition. He would make a wonderful companion and deserves so much better than life in a kennel. If you are interested in meeting Griffin call us at 912 652 6575 to schedule an appointment. Please like and share to help Griffin finally find a family!

Happy Halloween from one of our longest residents, Price. Price first came to the shelter 3 days before Halloween last year and was brought back in August because his owner was moving and has been patiently waiting for someone to take him home ever since. He is a very handsome 2 year old who is friendly and playful. He also has very cute freckles! He likes to go to the Renegade Paws pack walk and does very well around other dogs. Because he came into the shelter already neutered, his adoption fee is only $35! If you are interested in meeting Price call (912) 652-6575 to schedule an appointment. If you have other pets at home, proof of current rabies vaccination and a meet and greet with your dog/s is needed to complete the adoption process. Her previous owners just called her "Momma", but everyone at the shelter lovingly refers to her as "Fat Debbie"! Poor little (big) Debbie was surrendered by her owner who has terminal cancer and is now too sick to care for her. At six years old, Debbie still has most of her life ahead of her and is active and healthy despite being a little chonky. Unfortunately many adopters prefer younger cats, so she has been at the shelter a little longer than other kitties. If you are interested in meeting Debbie, call us at (912) 652-6575 to schedule an appointment. If you have other pets at home, proof of their current rabies vaccinations will be required to complete your adoption. Please like and share to help our girl Fat Debbie find a home!

October is Pit Bull Awareness Month! Fun fact about Pit Bulls: they were originally bred to drive livestock and be family companions - they were often called "nanny dogs" because of their love of children and were thought to be too friendly to be good guard dogs. Today's gorgeous Pit Bull model is Memphis Grizzly. Memphis is super cuddly and walks well on a leash. He's a stocky little low rider that sounds like he might be part pig, but he's definitely 100% pure house hippo...! If you are interested in meeting Memphis Grizzly, give us a call at (912) 652-6575 to schedule an appointment. If you have pets at home, please bring proof of current rabies vaccinations with you to your appointment. A meet and greet with your dog/dogs will be required to complete the application process. If Memphis Grizzly isn't the dog for you there are many other dogs at the shelter waiting for good homes. Please Share to Help this good boy find a family! See more

UPDATE! Donovan has been adopted!!! Happy National Black Dog Day! Did you know that black is the most common color of shelter dogs? This can cause them to stay at the shelter longer than other dogs and can put them at higher risk for euthanasia. On a positive note, recent studies have shown that more and more people are choosing to adopt black dogs. Our model for Black Dog Day is the beautiful and charming Donovan. Donovan is about one year old and loves to play, especially with other dogs. His spunky and fun personality makes him the perfect pet for an active family. If you are interested in Donovan or adoption in general, call us at (912) 652-6575 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Cake is the cuddliest, most purrfull kitty you can find. She chirps and trills when she is happy and loves being held. At six years old, she is calm and mature and would make a wonderful lap cat. She is our longest feline resident and can't wait to find a family to love her. Adoption includes age appropriate vaccines, deworming, FIV/feline leukemia test, microchip, and spay voucher.
