CVCS personnel, working with the Sexton for the Columbus municipal cemeteries, has established a Memorial Section at Porterdale Cemetery. The grave monument pictured for veteran Jim ALLEN, which was obtained at least six years ago but never erected, is the first to be installed in the new site. Applications are currently pending with the Veterans Administration for several new World War I grave markers. Meanwhile, plans for beautification improvements to enhance the Memorial Section are under consideration. We would like to thank the Columbus Museum of Black History and the Riverdale-Porterdale Foundation for their support of the program to mark local graves of veterans.

The CVCS recently marked this grave for P. W. PRYOR, Jr. at Riverdale Cemetery. An application has been submitted to obtain a marker for his father, P. W. PRYOR, Sr., who served in a Home Guard unit. The graves of Sr., his wife, and their son Jr. were moved in 1911 from Linwood Cemetery to Riverdale but none were marked until now.

Another grave has recently been marked by CVCS volunteers: Hugh Grant IVEY was elected Sheriff of Muscogee County and died in 1875 while serving in that office. His older brother John Reid IVEY, who fought in the Mexican War and the Civil War, was also elected Sheriff and also died while serving, in 1869.
