Round 1 of the 2019 City Championship is complete. Jonathan Gaillard fired an even par round of 72 in very windy conditions and has a slim 1 shot lead over Grant Crowell, Jim Foote, Ryan Hogan and Will Peeples, each shooting 73. Two shots back with opening 74’s are Jackson Bishop, Jeff Waggoner, Alex Hughes and Alex Morettini. This weekend should be fun to watch, 11 players are within 3 shots of the leader. ... The Championship Flight is 54 holes of match play. Flights 1, 2, and 3 will play 36 holes over the weekend.

Congratulations to Spencer Ralston, 2019 Players Amateur Champion. The former Red Elephant standout and current Georgia Bulldog Senior shot a final round 63 to make up an 11 shot deficit and win by a single shot at 19 under par. The tournament was held in Bluffton, SC at Berkeley Hall Club. With the victory, Spencer qualified for a spot in the 2020 RBC Classic on the PGA Tour!

Red Elephant Golfer is ON A ROLL!!! Congratulations to Andrew Hughes! In a span of 10 days on the University of Georgia Golf Course, Andrew qualified for the 2019 US Junior Amateur Championship to be played at Inverness GC in Toledo, Ohio. Andrew shot a 2 under par 69 to tie for 1st place. 132 players competed for 4 spots in the tournament. One week later, Andrew won the Georgia State Golf Associations 2019 Junior Match Play Championship. Andrew shot 76 in the qualifier to ma...ke it to match play (top 16). He then beat fellow Red Elephant team mate Ryan Davidson in the 1/4 finals, beat Myles Jones 5&3 in the semi-finals and took the title with a 1 up win over Luke Koenig. Go Andrew! Good Luck at Inverness!!!!

Congratulations to Tim Lovell for making a Hole-in-One at Chattahoochee Golf Course. Tim was playing in the TNG (Tuesday Night Golf) group on July 2nd when he flew a 7 iron in the hole on the fly on hole #5. The shot was from 175 yards. Will Hicks, Todd Pennington and Jonathan Benton witnessed the shot.

Matt Elliott, an assistant professional from Achasta fired a 2 day total of 10 under par to win the 2019 Milton Martin Honda Classic hosted by Chattahoochee Golf Club on May 20-21. Matt was one of 89 Professionals and Amateurs from all areas of Georgia to compete in the 2nd annual event. The tournament is a Georgia PGA Section Points Event.

103 Junior golfers from Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama competed in the Southeastern Junior Tour Chattahoochee Classic on May 11-12 at Chattahoochee Golf Course. Six players from Gainesville-Hall County were in the field for the 2 day, 36 hole event. Congratulations to Mikayla Dubnik. Mikayla, a Sophomore from North Hall High won the overall girls division with an even par total of 144. Andrew Hughes from Gainesville High finished tied for 3rd with a 4 under par total of 140. ...Zayne Hilderbrand, also from GHS was tied for 8th at 1 under par 143. Another Red Elephant, Ryan Davidson, finished tied for 4th in the boys 14-15 age division with even par 144. Also competing in the event was Mason Hill from Cherokee Bluff High and Morgan Nichol from GHS.

Congratulations to Stephen Hill for a Hole-in-One on #5 at Chattahoochee Golf Club! Steve made the ace on Wednesday while playing in the Chattahoochee Men’s Association. The hole was playing 135 yards and Stephen used a 9 iron for the shot. Bryan Bell, Scott Adams and Don Sorrell witnessed the shot.

Congratulations to the Gainesville Red Elephant Golf Team for winning the 2019 Invite hosted by GHS at Chattahoochee Golf Club. Andrew Hughes was the low medalist with a 2 day total of 141, 3 under par. Zayne Hilderbrand finished 3rd at 1 under 143. Ryan Davidson was T4 with a 1 over par 145. The Red Elephant boys and girls teams will be competing for the Area Championship on Monday @ Apple Mountain. Good luck!... GO BIG RED!!!

The 2018 Gainesville City Junior Championship was held at Chattahoochee GC this weekend. 32 juniors from around North GA competed for the 2018 Boys and Girls title. Ryan Hogan won the overall Boys Championship firing 68-77 145 to win by a single shot over Zayne Hilderbrand 75-71 146. Tied for 3rd was Hayden Hayes and 2017 Champion Walker Winslette (151). 5th was Yates Smith (152). Morgan Nichol is the 2018 Girls Champion. Morgan had rounds of 79-80 159. Finishing runner up wa...s Karina Collins 89-91 180. The boys 14-15 division winner is Michael Dotson with a fine Sunday score of 72 (151). Finishing in second was Sam Patterson 81-76 157. In the boys 10-13 age division Alex Holcomb 79-74 153 won by a single shot over 1st round leader Henry Kopydlowski 78-76 154.
