Chattahoochee Bend State Park

Attention all boaters! . Just wanted to give some friendly reminders before you head out on your paddle trip this weekend: 1. All boaters (no matter if a kayak, canoe, or motorized boat) MUST wear a life jacket (PFD). They are required by law and can save your life in case of an emergency. Please, just wear it. 2. Know your body of water. The Chattahoochee River is a fast moving body of water. While it may look calm on the surface, the undercurrent is strong and can be danger...ous. Unless you are in a motorized boat, you CANNOT start and end from the same place. Please make sure to plan your trip accordingly and have a designated put-in and take-out spot. 3. Make sure to bring plenty of water while you're out on the water. Dehydration happens easily when you're in the direct sun and expending your energy while paddling. Come prepared with snacks, sunscreen, and anything else you may need. Don't forget your keys to your vehicles for where you are taking out! 4. Always have some form of communication in case of an emergency. Make sure someone knows your plan and your estimated time on the river. Phones can be essential when trying to locate someone lost on the river. Make sure to be out of the water before dark. As rangers of Chattahoochee Bend, we want to stress the importance of boating safety on the river. Whether you are a seasoned kayaker or just starting your boating adventures, we want to make sure that everyone is safe while enjoying the great outdoors.
