On that day BHS lost seven students and a teacher in the Winecoff Hotel fire in Atlanta while attending a state Y Club assembly. Students Maxine Willis, Ruth Powell, Sue Brooke, Patsy Griffin, Mary Louise Murphy, Earl Carr Gragg, and Clarence Bates were some of the best and brightest representing their school and community that week. Their advisor and BHS teacher Mary Davis was with them when they perished that night. The Winecoff Hotel fire remains the deadliest hotel fire in American history and the catalyst behind many of the fire safety measures in place today. Read more here: http://ow.ly/vyNt50CEGbC
