The Government Center Tower and East and West Wings of the Government Center will be closed today due to a break in a 2 inch water main that feeds the boiler on... top of the Government Center Tower, causing offices to flood rendering the building not useable today. Maintenance is working to repair the problem and vendors are on site to remove the water and clean up the damage. The public will be notified later today regarding when the buildings will be back in service to resume normal city business. Please stay tuned to local media for continuous updates. See more

Notice of Road Closure Starting Tuesday May 1st, a section of Boxwood Boulevard between Boxwood Place and Midtown Drive will be closed to all traffic. The clos...ure will allow a contractor hired by the Columbus Consolidated Government to replace an existing bridge over Lindsey Creek. A signed detour route will be provided along Midtown Drive, Midtown Loop, and Boxwood Place. The road is expected to be closed for approximately five months. Drivers are encouraged to proceed with caution in the area of the road closure and detour route. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 17, 2018 COLUMBUS CONSOLIDATED GOVERNMENT DELAYS OPENING ON THURSDAY DUE TO ANTICIPATED ROAD CONDITIONS... City offices of the Columbus, Georgia Consolidated Government will delay opening until 11:00am on Thursday, January 18, 2018 due to anticipated ice on various streets and roads Thursday morning. This delayed opening does not apply to emergency and other essential personnel. Normal hours of operations for all city services will resume on Friday, January 19, 2018. All morning court sessions for Recorder’s Court are cancelled for Thursday, January 18, 2018 and will be rescheduled. The afternoon court session for Recorder’s Court at 2:00pm will still be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018. METRA Bus service including Dial-A-Ride Service will be delayed until 10:00am with the first routes leaving the METRA Transfer Center at 10:00am on Thursday, January 18, 2018. For more information, call METRA Information at 706-225-4673. Regular METRA service will resume on Friday, January 19, 2018. Garbage Collection service for Thursday, January 18, 2018 will begin at 10:00am. All routes will be completed on Thursday. Garbage Collection service (makeup from Monday Holiday) scheduled for Wednesday, January 17, 2018 will be picked up on Saturday, January 20, 2018. The Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission "Bring one for the Chipper", Christmas Tree Recycling project will start on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 thru Saturday, Jan...uary 6, 2018. Citizens may drop off their live Christmas trees in designated areas at the following locations: Cooper Creek Park, 5089 Cooper Creek Parkway, 31907 Britt David Park, 5560 Armour Road, 31904 Shirley B. Winston Recreation Center, 3033 Steam Mill Road, 31907 Dinglewood Park, 1660 13th Street, 31901 Oxbow Meadow Environmental Learning Center, 3535 S. Lumpkin Road Columbus, GA 31903- M-F 9am-4pm and 10am-6pm on Saturday The recycled Christmas trees will be reused for fish habitat at the Oxbow Meadows Environmental Center lake. The trees will be placed in the water for spawning fish habitat, and they will provide durable shelter for newly hatched fish from predators.William Kent, Manager of Environmental Services, Columbus Water Works and Chairperson of the Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission, stated "This is a great way to recycle your Christmas Trees and add useful habitat for the fish in Oxbow Meadows Lake".
