As always, we will continue to do everything possible to ensure the health and safety of our members. We will be disinfecting the gym EVERY HOUR and will send out updates on the pandemic and how to stay safe. For starters, 1. Wash your hands! Lather for at least 20 seconds to let the soap do its job. 2. Dont touch your face! 3. Stay active, eat healthy and stay hydrated! A strong body and immune system are invaluable, now and always. 4. Dont shake hands! A smile, and... if need be, an elbow bump, is the new way to greet. 5. If you have a cough, stay home! Better safe than sorry. If you are ill and must be out, keep your distance and cough into your elbow/sleeve. If anybody has any questions dont hesitate to reach out. #ProgressReport! James came to us with some imbalances that made squatting deep uncomfortable, difficult, and frustrating. We noticed he would shift his weight to favor one side on every exercise from squats to cleans and deadlifts. After a few weeks of #correctiveexercises, he has drastically improved both strength and mobility in his weaker hip, which affords him improved performance both in the gym and on the dance floor. Congrats to our December Athlete of the Month, Eamon! 1. What do you do outside of the gym? I work at a research lab at UGA, where we are developing methods to better forecast things like the number of people who will get the flu. ... 2. Favorite thing about crossfit and favorite Movement/ Lift? I like how crossfit has opened up new worlds of exercise to amateur athletes and fitness enthusiasts like me. I come from a distance-running background, and learning all of the movements done in crossfit and seeing the personal progress I've been able to make has been and continues to be a great adventure. Overall, I feel like a superhuman relative to before I started. My favorite movement would probably be the squat clean. 3. What do you love about Georgia Strength? I get great support from the coaches and other members. From day one, I got the feeling that they had confidence in my ability to succeed in doing the standard workouts if I kept at it. Ultimately, it up to you to figure figure out what you need to do to succeed but having more experienced people giving you pointers and just working out in a group with others who are more advanced is a tremendous help. Why do we strive to be fit? Sure it feels good, and it's nice to look at your toes once in a while. Maybe gaining some aesthetically pleasing muscle tone would boost your confidence. But the number one reason is to avoid costly disease and premature death. There is no magic pill, no voodoo cleanse, no 5 minute shortcut to being truly fit.
