For Immediate Release January 6, 2021 NEWS RELEASE Clayton County Offers COVID-19 Relief Financial Assistance and Direct Housing Services... (Jonesboro, GA)- Clayton County Community Development Department, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Programs Division is offering COVID-19 Relief Financial Assistance. The assistance will provide up to three months rental or mortgage assistance as well as a one-time subsidy for utility assistance. Eligibility for COVID-19 Financial Relief Assistance is based primarily on two (2) factors: maximum household income limits and can only be used to prevent, prepare for and respond to coronavirus only as required by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The Clayton County HUD Programs Division administers a variety of programs funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The county became an Entitlement community in 1998 and since then has received over $48.8 million. Annually, the HUD Programs Division is awarded an average of 2.7 million dollars, which is then made available to county agencies, nonprofit organizations, municipalities and other entities serving low- to moderate-income residents. Clayton County to Host Virtual Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for District 4: Lake Spivey Recreation Center (Jonesboro, GA)On Friday, January 22, 2021, District 4 Commissioner DeMont Davis and Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Lake Spivey Recreation Center at Clayton County International Park. Attendance for the ceremony is by invitation only and limited to those who are program participants due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Viewers can register in advance by visiting https://tinyurl.com/LakeSpiveyRC. Lake Spivey Recreation Center will be open to the public January 22 at noon. Lake Spivey Recreation Center features include: A lap swimming pool (wheelchair accessible) A weight training area A spin cycle studio An enclosed children’s play area A café/coffee shop A rock-climbing wall Co-located in the new facility are the new administrative offices for the Parks and Recreation Services Department. This new facility integrates with the Lake Spivey Trail, which is part of the Clayton Connects trail system. The completion of this project couldn’t have come at a more opportune time, said Commissioner DeMont Davis. This center was designed to help citizens maintain their health and wellness. Additionally, Lake Spivey Recreation is not just for the District 4 residents, it is for all Clayton County citizens and our surrounding communities. This project was funded by the Clayton County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) as one of the quality of life and leisure projects.
