The Silver Comet Trail will be closed at the East/West Connector overpass bridge, from Jan. 4 to Feb. 5, for bridge decking replacement by Cobb Department of Transportation crews. Cobb Senior Services will hold this year's final food distribution for Cobb residents age 60 or older 11 a.m. until noon Friday, Dec. 18, or while supplies last. An ID showing Cobb home address and birthdate is required upon arrival for each senior being served. The address is 1150 Powder Springs St, Marietta.

The next drive-through pantry at Stratton Library will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16. One package of up to 20 pounds will be distributed per family on a first-come, first-served basis. The donated packages include produce and shelf-stable items. Supported by the Atlanta Community Food Bank, these pantries are made possible by the teamwork of Cobb Public Library staff along with colleagues from Cobb PARKS, Cobb Water, Cobb State Court and Cobb Sheriff’s Office.

Cases of the novel coronavirus have now hit levels about what we experienced during the summer peak in Cobb County. Public Health officials say recent holiday travel combined with the cold weather have been factors in this latest surge. Groups are preparing for the arrival of the vaccine in Cobb County, but first doses will go out to healthcare workers and first responders. Hospitalizations for COVID cases continue to increase and critical care beds are low.... Please double down on precautions through the holiday season. Wear a mask, Watch your distance, and Wash your hands. Avoid unnecessary travel in the coming weeks.

Cobb County 4-H will be hosting a live fundraiser on Facebook 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. This event will help the organization raise funds to support local youth programs. All funds raised go to support 4-H club programming, Project Achievement fees, camp scholarships, the Marvin Hansard scholarship, reduce the cost of conferences, club supplies and more. Advance voting for the Jan. 5 runoff begins today, Dec. 14, and will be held at various locations around the county. For more information on voting locations, times and dates, visit cobbelections.org. Please plan to practice safe social distancing when visiting these locations and anticipate lines. To vote in person, you must show one of six types of Photo ID There will be NO VOTING on Thursday, Dec. 24, Friday, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1, Saturday, Jan. 2, or Monday Jan. 4.... Any registered voter may request an absentee ballot for the Jan. 5 election through the State of Georgia's online portal by visiting ballotrequest.sos.ga.gov. The Art Station is looking for photographers to showcase in our upcoming digital gallery, celebrating the lives and journeys of veterans. WEATHER ALERT - The National Weather Service is warning of heavy rain and possibly high winds from a system moving through. We already have some isolated reports of street flooding in Cobb County, including the East-West Connector (pictured). Use caution when driving. Although the system should move through in a few hours, dangerous conditions could persist after dark.

Last week's drive-through pantry at Stratton Library helped more than 370 families by providing food packages. With a line of cars backing far into the road by the library, it took about two hours for the limited food supply to be distributed -- about three families per minute. The next drive-through pantry at Stratton Library will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16. One package of up to 20 pounds will be distributed per family on a first-come, first-served basis.
