Spooky season is here, and the only thing scarier than bat decorations, is a world without bats! Did you know that just one bat can eat up to 1,200 insects in one and hour. Bats all over the world are declining due to habitat loss and a devastating disease called White Nose Syndrome , but you can help! Give these guys a home, and build a bat box. https://www.nwf.org/Garden-for-Wild/Cover/Build-a-Bat-House

Congratulations to Jim Bearden, Cobb County’s Volunteer of the Year. Jim has been so successful at bringing awareness to Bluebirds that throughout Metro-Atlanta... he is known affectionately as, the Bluebird Guy. He has provided over 11 years of service as a member of the Friends of Green Meadows Preserve. For seven of those years Jim has served as the coordinator of the Blue Bird program at Green Meadows Preserve and currently serves as the vice president of the Friends of Green Meadows Preserve. In his efforts to become a more impactful volunteer Jim successfully completed the University of Georgia Master Gardener Program in 2013. Since that time, he has logged over 3,000 volunteer hours through the Master Gardener Volunteers of Cobb County system and is a regular volunteer at the Green Meadows Community Garden. Cobb County is so lucky to benefit from Jim’s love of ornithology. He has connected countless individuals to Green Meadows Preserve and has provided a lifetime of knowledge to the public. See more
