College Park Police Department GA 18.01.2021

Dear College Park citizens, As per Georgia Law it is perfectly legal for a citizen to shoot off fireworks between the hours of 10am and 11:59pm on December 31st, and between the hours of midnight and 1am on January 1st. (So essentially from 10am to 1am tonight). Knowing that there will be fireworks tonight, prepare accordingly. We recommend you bring your pets inside because the big booms will scare them and they will naturally run away. ... With that said, Police, EMS and Fire personnel are already spread thin because of COVID and responding to calls for service. Please practice safety in all your festivities tonight. Discharging firearms in a celebratory manner is both dangerous and illegal. Please do not discharge firearms to celebrate the new year. Also, try to be considerate of your neighbors and others in the community. Thank you for your cooperation. We at the College Park Police Department wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year!!

CPPD Sgt. Awarded Purple Heart: On Thursday August 6th, 2020 Sgt. Charles Chuck Landrum was awarded the Purple Heart as a result of a gunshot wound he sustained in the performance of his duties. On Saturday April 4th, 2020 Officers from College Park, Hapeville and the Georgia State Patrol were involved in a pursuit after they received a license plate reader alert on a vehicle that was connected to a homicide in Clayton County, GA. During the pursuit the suspect exited his v...ehicle and exchanged gunfire with the officers. The pursuit continued until the suspect lost control and wrecked his vehicle. Sgt. Landrum was shot in the neck as he used his vehicle to disable the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was captured after a foot pursuit and remains in the Fulton County Jail. He was connected to and charged with murders in both Georgia and Florida. The vehicle he was driving belonged to one of the victims. Sgt. Dunn and Lt. Smith were able to get Sgt. Landrum in the police cruiser and as Sgt. Dunn drove the vehicle to the hospital, Lt. Smith stayed by his side in the backseat. Way to go guys!!!

Last week the PD received a call requesting a supervisor on location. Upon arrival our Officer’s were greeted by a gentlemen explaining he had some extra money so he went and bought some school supplies for students. He asked if we could find a school that would take them. Yesterday our recruits delivered these supplies to College Park Elementary School. What an awesome random act of kindness. Bless you sir!!
