Two years ago, leading up to July 4, the College Park Historical Society presented the PBS American Experience video "Alexander Hamilton." Much to our disappointment, Lin Manuel Miranda wasn't able to drop by, but we still had a good time. What a difference two years makes. We miss you and look forward to the time when we can get together. Happy Independence Day everyone!

Back in the day, College Park had its own drive-in theater, the Roosevelt Hwy Drive-in, located in the vicinity of what's now the airport car rental facility. The 1953 movie shown on the marquis, "Walking My Baby Back Home," starred Donald O'Connor, Janet Leigh, and Buddy Hackett. Some people think drive-in's will experience a resurgence in the post-pandemic world.

With all the recent interest in the Pure Oil station in College Park (and the potential it holds), now's a good time to look at a similar property that has been restored. The Pure Oil station shown is in Pine Mountain, just a few miles from Callaway Gardens. It appears to be empty (could be wrong about that), and like "our" Pure Oil Station, is strategically located as one of the first properties that visitors see when they enter town.

Developer currently considering multi-use facilities on the site may possibly retain parts or facade of Pure structure, in keeping with Coll3ege Park's historic appeal.

Hello, friends-- Yesterday evening, the CP Historical Society Board of Directors made the decision to postpone our meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 18th. We'll look to reschedule it when the issues associated with the unpredictable CoronoV19 have been clarified and the threat(s) are understood. Since last evening, as you are aware, President Trump has effectively shut down the country, so we were simply ahead of the curve, I guess. Wishing each of you a healthy soci...al isolation, Ginger Croley Blackstone, Secretary College Park Historical Society.
