Congratulations Shameika Averett!
Two memory bears for two daughters! Their dad always cut the sleeves off of his shirts. Our sweet volunteer crafted the bears and remembered this detail for his family.
March is Social Work Month! We celebrate hospice and palliative care social workers and thank you for all you do for your patients and their families. #SocialWorkMonth

Columbus Hospice is collecting new undergarments for women, as well as food for holiday meals for Columbus Hospice patients at home. If you would like to contribute to either campaign, the undergarments are needed by this Thursday, October 29, and the food by Friday, November 20. Items can be dropped by our 7020 Moon Road location. Thanks in advance!
When thinking about her breast cancer journey, Amy reflected on what it was like to have access to the John B. Amos Cancer Center right here in Columbus: John ...B. Amos Cancer Center is an amazing place. It is an environment of healing and hope. Hope is everywhere, not only in the written words around the building, but in the people that I came across. I was never scared to be there. I do not know that Columbus realizes what a treasure the John B. Amos Cancer Center is. Before the arrival of John B. Amos Cancer Center, people had to go elsewhere for treatment. The support of our community over the years has allowed for cancer patients to receive all of their treatments from diagnosis to completion at the John B. Amos Cancer Center. Thank you to our Rose Sponsor, Columbus Hospice of Georgia & Alabama, for supporting the Elena Amos Breast Care Center and making stories like Amy’s possible.
Meet Elizabeth and Willie! Elizabeth adopted Willie when his owner died recently. Our Pet Peace of Mind program helps place patients’ pets if they need rehoming. Elizabeth is part of our team and already loves sweet Willie.
Our team of staff and volunteers.
Beethoven provided some much needed pet therapy yesterday. #hapcfacesofcaring #pettherapy
Katie Greene presented today at the PSOA meeting on Five Wishes.
We are delighted to announce that Cynthia Shanon Zeisloft is the chosen recipient of the My NHPCO 2020 Volunteers Are the Foundation of Hospice Award in the c...ategory of Specialized Volunteer Services for Pet Therapy services and Pet Peace of Mind. There were over 260 nominations nationally. Shanon is a volunteer at Columbus Hospice of Georgia and Alabama in Columbus, GA, the first hospice to adopt the Pet Peace of Mind program. She rescued Beethoven from Paws Humane Society in Columbus, GA. She and Beethoven started volunteering with Columbus Hospice in April 2016 and since then have touched many lives of the people they have come in contact with at Columbus Hospice. Shanon also brings Beethoven to see patients regularly at a nursing home. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, she was unable to visit her patients in person. On Easter Sunday she put bunny ears on Beethoven and visited the patients from outside the patients’ window. She also helps with the Pet Peace of Mind Program at Columbus Hospice where she regularly transports patients’ pets to the vet and groomer. Shanon Zeisloft has been an invaluable volunteer to Columbus Hospice with her contributions as a pet therapy and Pet Peace of Mind volunteer. Her giving heart and positive attitude is an asset to the organization and she AND Beethoven help people wherever they go. Thank you to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization for honoring her with this award and for recognizing the significant impacts pets play in improving the quality of life for patients. We are ever so grateful for all she does to help patients and pets stay together when they need each other most.
Congratulations! LT C Shanon Zeisloft was the chosen recipient of the national My NHPCO 2020 Volunteers Are the Foundation of Hospice Award in the category of Specialized Volunteer Services for Pet Therapy services and Pet Peace of Mind. Normally this award would be given in-person at the National Conference but due to COVID the national conference will be virtual. We were advised by the NHPCO committee that there we over 260 nominations nationally. We love Z and Beethoven! Thank you for all you do!
Happy 90th Mr. Murphy! We haven’t seen our beloved front desk volunteer for a while due to COVID-19 precautions. His son drove him by so we could celebrate his birthday, too. We miss your sweetness and silliness!
