On 9/30/2020 at approximately 1:55 P.M., Officers of the Commerce Police Department responded to the United Community Bank (2055 Homer Rd Commerce, GA) in reference to a bank robbery. Commerce Police Department is seeking any assistance the public may be able to provide in identifying the male in the photographs and/or a possible owner of the vehicle pictured below. The vehicle pictured is the actual suspect vehicle and is a late 80's to mid-90's Chevrolet Corvette. We do no...t currently have the tag number associated with the vehicle. The exterior of the vehicle appears to be completely stock and in good condition. The male is described as a white male in his 30's. He is approximately 5'11" tall and weighs approximately 155 pounds. No one was injured during the robbery. If you have any information that may assist in this investigation, we ask that you contact Detective Justin Ferguson or Detective Dave Galloway at 706-335-3200, [email protected], or [email protected]. Now that travel restrictions are being lifted, many visitors and businesses might have noticed a recent change to the downtown area. We now have 2 hour limits for store front parking. This has been a process that has taken more than a year but it is finally complete! The changes will encourage convenient parking for our downtown business customers. Upper floor residents living downtown will be able use marked spaces where parking is available from 6pm 8am Monday Friday an...d 4pm 8am Saturday and all day Sunday. Visitors, customers, and businesses can be assured that the city is not out to tow vehicles or write citations for minor violations. If a dinner date, beauty appointment, or other business goes a little longer than 2 hours we want them to enjoy their time in our city. All downtown parking is free so come out and enjoy all Commerce has to offer. See more
Thank you to the people in the community who have provided food and other items to the police department in the last couple of weeks. It’s greatly appreciated and your support means everything!
It has been brought to our attention that there has been several social media posts regarding the impounding of a vehicle in the area of Edward Jones today. The posts indicated that the vehicle had been impounded due to the city’s two hour parking ordinance in the downtown area. This vehicle was impounded, because it was reported stolen out of Stephens County. Officers with the Commerce Police Department impounded the vehicle so it could be returned to the rightful owner. Our current two hour parking ordinance that is in place downtown will only be enforced through the issuing of citations and not the impounding of vehicles.
The City of Commerce is aware of the peaceful protest that is scheduled for June 4th. We acknowledge the rights of our citizens to peacefully assemble and exercise their first amendment rights. The City of Commerce is working with the protest organizers to ensure that the event is conducted safely and peacefully. Please expect temporary delays on the Homer Rd and Downtown streets between approximately 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm. Our Police Department will be on hand and working in conjunction with organizers to direct traffic and maintain a safe environment for our community.
Commerce Municipal Court will not be having court today due to COVID-19 restrictions. Letters were mailed out last week notifying individuals of the change, however some haven’t gotten them. If you have any questions regarding your court date and time please call 706-335-3200 and we will be glad to help.
