The current racial tension in America has brought me a lot of heartache and anxiety. My emotions have been all over the place as I’ve gone through some recent ...painful experiences of my own. I’ve overheard people around me describing Black people in a negative way; making harsh, generalized judgments; and expressing preconceived notions about Black people more than I ever have before. Whenever I overheard conversations like these, I was usually the only Black person around. It can be scary to speak up in a situation like that. Talking about it has been difficult because so many people around me don’t understand how big of a problem and how common racism really is. I started feeling isolated and misunderstood. These painful feelings settled in my heart for a while, but everything changed when I heard President Dallin H. Oaks’s address ‘Racism and Other Challenges,’ given at a Brigham Young University devotional (Oct. 27, 2020, speeches.byu.edu). For me, to hear him say, ‘Of course Black lives matter! That is an eternal truth all reasonable people should support,’ meant everything to me. President Oaks’s message brought me so much peace, comfort, and reassurance that God loves me regardless of my skin. I am in the right place and I truly do belong, especially in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Several of my Black friends also felt enormous joy because the Lord’s prophets were speaking out against racism and reminding us of Heavenly Father’s love for each of us. I believe that by following the Savior’s example of love, especially during this Christmas season, we too can increase unity throughout the world. We truly are all divine children of heavenly parents, all with the same destiny. Mable Read more from Mable here: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org//the-gospel-can-bring-

On November 20, I offered a message and prayer of gratitude for the world and everyone in it. I am grateful and humbled that you would join in thanking God for ...His countless blessings to each of us. I urge you to make expressing gratitude to God a part of your daily life. An attitude of gratitude gives us better perspective and more peace of mind and heart. I hope you will also continue to pray daily to our Heavenly Father. We are His children, and He loves us with the care of a tender parent. Now, as we enter the Christmas season and celebrate the living Christ, one of the most powerful ways we can show our gratitude is by serving His children. Let us follow His example to Light the World by loving and serving others, one by one. #GiveThanks #LightTheWorld
