Delivering high speed, quality broadband services to rural Georgians has been an ongoing challenge. Today Georgia EMC announced it has filed the Georgia Solution with the Georgia Public Service Commission to help bring broadband into unserved, rural areas of the state. As part of this bold, innovative program, the EMCs are rolling out the red carpet to cable providers new and old with two generous offers: the One Buck Deal and the Georgia One-Touch-Make-Ready Program. U...nder the One Buck Deal, EMCs are offering to forego recovering a fair share of the costs they incur to purchase, install and maintain power poles from broadband providers. They will allow attachments to those poles for just one dollar, per pole, per year for any provider bringing new broadband into an area that is unserved. The Georgia One-Touch-Make-Ready program will cut red tape by empowering internet providers with the freedom to do work necessary to prepare EMC poles for their attachments without prior approval.
