Did you know that 3 of the top ten most banned books of 2019 featured transgender characters? What if we celebrated these books instead of censoring them? Join us November 9-11 as Ben Baker, CSU Communications professor, host interviews with local activists as well as Susan Kuklin, the author of Beyond Magenta: Transgender Teens Speak Out, the #2 most banned book of 2019. Topics will include the transgender experience, representation in literature, and more. Did we mentio...n there will be prize giveaways throughout this celebration? These interviews will be posted to CSU Libraries YouTube channel (https://bit.ly/32aCI1x) as well as Facebook! #bannedbooks #beyondmangenta

One hundred years ago, women won the right to vote after more than 50 years of diligent campaigning and pressure on the political establishment. Honor the suffragettes that fought for women's voting equality by pledging to vote in the 2020 election. Sign the pledge: https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/honor-suffrage Learn more about Columbus and Suffrage by visiting our exhibit "Mr. President, How Long Must We Wait?" in Simon Schwob Library.... #CSUHonorsSuffrage

#BannedBooksWeek: Mark your calendars for a live discussion with Alex Gino, author of George and Rick! George, the #1 most banned book in America two years running, follows George who knows she is not a boy but a girl. When her teacher announces the class play, Charlotte's Web, George's teacher won't let her try out for Charlotte even though George knows she'd be perfect for the role. What will George do? People Magazine calls George "Insightful...it'll resonate with any one who has ever felt different". In this discussion, Gino will speak about the censorship of their works and other LGBTQIA+ material and the importance of representation in literature. RSVP in the link below.
