BOOK STUDY Beginning Monday, November 9, 2020, 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of The Cathedral of Christ the King... Living IN Jesus: Growing In The Life We Were Made To Live Study led by FATHER TONY MCGEE This book may be purchased at Amazon.com or ordered through your local bookstore WINNER of the 2020 Christian Indie Book Award for Christian Education WINNER of the 2020 Illumination Book Award Bronze Medal for Bible Study Living IN Jesus is your discipleship guide as you journey together with another believer or small group to discover who God is, who you are in Christ, and how to live out of Christ’s wonderful abundant life on a moment-by-moment basis. The whole story of God’s interaction with mankind is about life: God is it; Adam and Eve were given it; by sinning, they lost it; none of their descendants could re-access it; God promised to restore it; Christ came to give it; by faith we accept it; and moment by moment we now walk in it. Wherever you find yourself currently in life, this study will lead you into experiencing more freedom, more health, and more wholeness through deeper intimacy with God. As a participant in this study, you will be amazed by His grace, kindness, power, and generosity toward you in Christ. About The Authors This book has been produced by the combined efforts of the counseling and coaching staff at Christian Families Today. WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH SOME PEOPLE? David Epps Recently it was announced that the President and his wife, as well as a number of associates, had contracted the coronavirus. Immediately, people all over the country, some famous, most not, erupted in an orgy of gleefulness. Some even expressed the hope that the President would die. What the heck (and I only use the word heck because this appears in a family publication and language left over from the Marine Corps is inap...Continue reading

THE DOG TAG David Epps When it was new, this dog tag I wear, it was blue with white lettering. It came in the mail one day, an unexpected and treasured gift. It wasn’t my name on the dog tag but it would be mine to wear and wear it I did, and do still....Continue reading

THE COMING ELECTION David Epps With less than 35 days until the 2020 presidential (and other) elections, the hype and threats are being geared up to levels unprecedented in my lifetime. One Christian magazine has flatly stated that Christians must support Trump (not sure what the penalty is if one doesn’t) while the other side is threatening riots in the streets (nothing new there) if Biden doesn’t win. Whatever happens in less than those 35 days, people’s heads are likel...Continue reading

THE PANDEMIC AND THE DEMISE OF THE CHURCH David Epps A recent Barna poll has indicated that, in the next 18 months, 20% of all churches in the United States are likely to close as a result of the pandemic. If accurate, this would mean that, in the United States, 9,491 Southern Baptist churches (out of 47,456 churches as of 2018) would shut down. With 17,000 parishes, the Catholics Church would close 3,400 churches. The Assemblies of God and the Church of God in Christ would b...Continue reading

Dear Christ the King family, Our Rector's Council had a meeting Thursday night and we first have some good news to report: 1) It has been 6 months since the pandemic began and there have been no incidences of transmission of COVID-19 at CTK... 2) We had a very good anniversary service with the highest attendance in 6 months and we maintained safety protocols 3) Our live streaming continues to surpass expectations. We had 373 views on livestreaming last Sunday in addition to our in-person attendance 4) People are continuing to come to out "post-service communion" between noon and 12:30 pm Sundays 5) Our youth program has resumed 6) A Sunday School class will be offered for adults on Wednesday nights beginning next more. More info to follow. Now for something new: We will be resuming services on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for all who wish to come. At least for now, Groups A and B are suspended. There are the following changes / caveats: 1) social distancing protocols will be maintained 2) A nursery for children under 24 months will be offered on Sundays. Older children will remain with parents. 3) All clergy will wear masks throughout the service, including during the procession and recession, unless they are speaking (preaching, reading, announcing, celebrating, etc.) . When those tasks are over, masks will be worn. 4) We are strongly encouraging congregation members to wear masks except during the reception of Holy Eucharist. Masks are not required but we are providing masks for anyone who will wear them. Part of the reason for this is that singing projects particles as much as 20 feet and remains in the air longer than we think it does. If we have more people it is important to protect everyone. We will not curtail singing as it is crucial to Christian worship. Worship teams members, since they face the altar and not the people, are exempt from wearing masks. 5) We will be open to changes and adapt as necessary. We understand that there are those vulnerable folks who will continue to worship via live stream for now. God is good and I pray you have a blessed week as we approach The Lord's Day! HE'S THE PASTOR. HE HAS TO EAT THE LIVER SANDWICH." By David Epps A number of years ago I served as the pastor of a church whose men’s group met monthly for breakfast. An experiment was tried that was intentioned to bring variety to the breakfast menu. Each man would take a turn at providing breakfast and he could prepare whatever he wished. It worked out well....Continue reading

HOW TO SURVIVE A TRAFFIC STOP David Epps No one likes to be stopped by the police but it is likely to happen to most of us. Once in a great while, we hear of a traffic stop turning deadly with either the officer or the driver being shot and killed. How does a driver keep an unpleasant experience from turning into something worse?...Continue reading
