Hey yogis. I miss you. I miss the days of sweaty hugs, mat to mat practices, and fogging up the windows in the studio. But I'm hitting the pause button. A couple of weeks ago, we decided to open Dancing Dogs Yoga Atlanta up after the Fourth of July. COVID was holding steady and Georgia-- not abating, but not climbing. Hours and days after that decision and announcement, we starting trending in the wrong direction. Our case high of last week has doubled to a new high thi...s week. My own family has seen a spike in coronavirus. Testing facilities are running out of tests or can not service the long lines. I can't be part of the problem., so while I miss you, I can't open right now. Our community is so much stronger together, and while we wanted to see all of your smiling faces in the studio, we have to face the reality of COVID-19 in our city and state. We were optimistic when we announced a soft re-opening, and while have curated practices and operating procedures that would keep us all safe, the grim reality is that cases in Georgia and across the nation are spiking. Fast. We do not feel that we can safely open classes in the studio at this time. While we re-group, we will be making a few changes, and trying out that rooftop class. Starting Saturday, July 11, we will offer a pilot rooftop class that will be simultaneously live-streamed. If all goes well, we will continue. lWe will ask everyone to wear masks until you are in your assigned parking spot, and we will be offering hand sanitizer and temp checks at registration. Outdoor classes will be canceled in the event of rain. Starting next week, we will livestream from the studio. We are going to take a couple of days off to get ready! Members who have not paused or canceled their memberships will be invited to attend some of these classes in studio, with a limit of 2-3 people at a time. Juneteenth. We are canceling our sessions and classes tomorrow in honor of Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day. On this date in 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, slaves in Texas learned of their freedom. We have chosen not to offer sessions or classes to honor this day as a day of celebration and rest. Because rest was denied to slaves, rest is a form of sacred resistance. Self-care is a form of sacred resistance. ... Juneteenth should also be celebrated and observed as much as any other major holiday, and DDY will do so from now on. If you are looking for a way to honor this holiday, seek out local Juneteenth celebrations or educate yourself. Yesterday, GA governor Brian Kemp brought GA into phase 2 which allows for group fitness classes of up to 10 people, but just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should. Part of our mission it to be up to something bigger than ourselves-- and to focus on community before profit, so we will stay closed for now, and reevaluate on June 1. We will continue to offer amazing classes, workshops and trainings on Namastream. In the meantime, we are taking steps to open ...safely when we feel the time is right. We are putting in polices and procedures and will be making an announcement shortly about the changes you can expect. We will be selling all of our community props, including blocks, mats, bolsters, blankets and straps. When we re-open, we will not offer community props or rentals of any kind.
