Two teams from Dean Rusk competed in the Regional Page Academic Bowl virtually on Saturday, December 12. One team placed 4th in the region and is moving on to the State competition on Saturday, January 23. Way to go!

The Cherokee County School District is sponsoring two contests to seek students’ help in encouraging mask usage among their classmates. CCSD students in grades ...6-12 are invited to create and enter a short public service announcement-style video that educates students about the benefits of mask usage by students at school, and students in grades K-12 are invited to design and enter a poster promoting the same message. Entries for both contests are due Jan. 11 and will be judged for message, quality and creativity. For the video contest, one winner in Grades 6-8 and one winner in Grades 9-12 each will win a $300 Amazon gift card, and second place will win a $100 Amazon gift card. For the poster contest, one winner in each division - Grades K-5, Grades 6-8, Grades 9-12 - each will win a $150 Amazon gift card, and a second-place winner in each division will win a $50 Amazon gift card. Prizes will be funded using donations from CCSD Partners. The winning videos and posters will be used in CCSD schools and on CCSD websites and social media to promote student mask usage. We are home to many talented young artists and know that they will produce outstanding entries to help us in our campaign, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said, noting that CCSD in 2019 enlisted students in a similar campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of vaping. We look forward to seeing their ideas as to how to spread the message that mask usage is beneficial to our schools and expected in our schools. CCSD Reminder: EARLY DISMISSAL ON FRIDAY, DEC. 18: All in-person CCSD high school and middle school students will be dismissed early on Friday, Dec. 18 (the ear...ly dismissal schedule is online at https://bit.ly/early1218). Elementary school After School Program is cancelled. DIGITAL LEARNING DAY ON TUESDAY, JAN. 5: Due to the use of schools as polling sites for the General Election runoff vote, Tuesday, Jan. 5, will be a Digital Learning Day for all CCSD in-person students. Students will complete lessons at home online using Canvas and Microsoft Teams; teachers and staff will be working at their schools. This change will not impact students already enrolled in Digital Learning.
