The Air Force recently named its male and female 2019 athletes of the year. They are a world-class handball player and a top equestrian. The Air Force’s Female ...Athlete of the Year is Maj. Andrea D. Matesick. Matesick, the chief of safety and a T-38C instructor weapons system officer at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, is also one of the nation’s top equestrian show-jumping competitors. This is such a tremendous honor and big deal for me. Just for show jumping and the equestrian sport to be recognized is huge. Maj. Matesick The Air Force’s Male Athlete of the Year is Capt. Andrew L. Donlin. Donlin, an acquisition program manager, is currently a member of the Air Force Services Center’s World Class Athlete Program training for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Due to the #COVID19 pandemic, the Olympic Games were postponed for the first time in history. Donlin is one of the nation’s top-ranked USA Team Handball players and a member of the 26-member USA Men’s National Team premier player pool. He was the top USA scorer and led the U.S. team to its first-ever gold medal at the North American and Caribbean Beach Handball Championship, qualifying the U.S. team for the World Championships. We had an exciting weekend! On Saturday, some members of the Ogeechee River Pony Club came down and schooled over our jump course for their rally. It was so much fun to see these talented young equestrians and their ponies practicing. We had a nice surprise yesterday. A woman came out as we were doing some work in the arena and brought us this photo. She said that she had lived in the community when she was younger. Her parents had purchased it at a garage sale, and kept it through several moves. They no longer are in the area, and thought the current owners of the property might like to have it. This is from 1987...photos of the day the barn was finished, and the original owners, the Staffordshires.

It’s almost post time for the Kentucky Derby! It’s also Derby’s 20th birthday...he doesn’t care who wins the race as long as he gets extra hay to celebrate :)

Please excuse the dust, progress is happening around the barn...the first layer of footing is down in the stalls. Soon there will be rubber mats on top, and bedding on top of that, so your horse has a cozy place to nap at night.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I know everyone has a favorite team...but is anyone else rooting for the Clydesdales? We have been busy working on things, renovating stalls, and prepping to take care of your equine friends. You know you have worked in a barn too long when you get excited about new pitchforks!

We are making progress on the barn! New trim to replace the old, chewed up windows, just needs a fresh coat of paint.

If you’ve been in the neighborhood over the last few weeks, I’m sure you’ve noticed the activity and improvements going on at the barn. This is some of our new fencing that’s going up, both on the property perimeter and along the arena. We can’t wait for the end result!

We offer individual as well as group turnout. This is one of our individual paddocks for horses who need some alone time, or are recovering from injuries.

This isn’t our barn, but so many people had sent us information on the infamous 52 thoroughbreds in need of rescue (and we thank you for thinking of our facility!) that we thought you might be interested to see what became of at least one of the mares. Happy Friday everyone! If you’re feeling a bit sleepy after your ride, don’t worry, our clubhouse is fully stocked with a single cup coffee maker, so your drink is always hot and fresh! We also have a fridge to keep your lunch, snacks, or drinks chilled, as well as heat and air conditioning to relax inside for a bit.
