Discovery’s Julie Evans, an LPC specializing in trauma, wrote this thoughtful and informative piece for R A D Advocates - with an appearance by Dr. Grant. One of Julie and Dr. Grants’ specialties is Reactive Attachment Disorder, which can often go misdiagnosed. If you are a parent dealing with the heaviness of RAD, know that there is help and hope.
Janet, Sherri, and Elsa are wrapping up a week of intensive Theraplay training in Birmingham. One of our core values at Discovery is learning and growing as clinicians - better equipping ourselves to meet the needs in our community. We are so proud of these amazing ladies who made a huge investment in themselves and their clients this week! Theraplay is a dyadic child and family therapy that has been recognized by the Association of Play Therapy as one of seven seminal psych...otherapies for children. Developed over 50 years ago, and practiced around the world, Theraplay was developed to support healthy child/caregiver attachment. Strong attachment between the child and the important adults in their life is the basis of lifelong good mental health as well as the mainstay of resilience in the face of adversity. Modern brain research and the field of neuroscience have shown that attachment is the way in which children come to understand, trust and thrive in their world.
