What should you look for in a flat iron? I got you! Before I get into the details, I would like to note that you should always get a hot tool with a real temperature setting so you can control the amount of heat and ALWAYS use heat protectant. Okay let's talk about the metal! Titaniun: Great for thick, strong, and coarse hair. Very durable material, but more likely to cause damage than the other metals. Tourmaline: A mixed metal coating over ceramic. Similar results as ti...tanium, but better for medium textured hair or damaged coarse hair. Ceramic: most suitable for fine to medium hair. Typically the safest type of metal. Bonus: What does it mean if the flat iron says it is ionic? Ionic means generating negative ions to balance our positive charged hair. Positively charged hair happens due to water and humidity. An ionic tool makes hair smoother and shinier! My favorite is my Bio Ionic One Pass iron. It heats up faster than any iron I've ever had and makes the hair super smooth and shiny. AND it never rips hair out!
