U.S. SENATE CANDIDATES IN THE LAKE AREA SUNDAY Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff will hold a meet-and-greet at Madison Town Park at 12:30 p.m. Senator Kelly Loeffler will hold a meet-and-greet at The Club at Lake Sinclair in Milledgeville at 4 p.m.

BREAKING: The Greene County School System will be going to distance learning next week when it returns from the Holiday Break because of COVID-19 issues. ...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT... * Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Georgia and eastern north Georgia mainly along and east of a line from Americus to Macon to Eatonton to Washington.... * Through 4 am Sunday. * Rounds of heavy rainfall are expected this afternoon and evening in the watch area with amounts of 1 to 2 inches and locally higher possible. Some areas of previous rainfall of 1 to 2 inches from yesterday have kept soils wet and could more easily allow for runoff and flash flooding with additional rainfall expected. * Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks and inundate fields, roads, businesses and other property. Roads may be closed.

BREAKING NEWS: The U.S. Supreme Court rejects a Texas lawsuit that would have stopped Georgia and three other states from casting their votes in the Electoral College. The Supreme Court says Texas did not have standing to bring the case. In the one page ruling, Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito were the only ones to raise objections to the decision.... Four Lake Area politicians had signed onto the case: Congressman Jody Hice, State Senator Burt Jones, State Representative Trey Rhodes and State Representative Rick Williams. PRESIDENTIAL RECOUNT IN THE LAKE AREA The hand recount of the presidential race in Georgia is set to begin today. A total of 57,225 ballots to be recounted in Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Morgan and Putnam Counties. There were a total of 57,535 ballots cast in the five counties, but 310 did not vote for one of the three presidential candidates on the ballot.... First is the counting of 13,923 hand-marked absentee ballots. Then comes the counting of 43,302 machine-marked ballots from early in-person voting and Election Day. UPDATE: Lake Area State Senator David Lucas is in the hospital with COVID-19 Macon-Bibb Commissioner Elaine Lucas tells WMAZ-TV that her husband was hospitalized Wednesday. Senator Lucas' district includes all or parts of Hancock, Jones, Washington and Wilkinson Counties.
