COVID-19 vaccination is beginning and based on national guidance, the initial supply of the vaccine is being prioritized for those at greatest risk of exposure, including healthcare workers and long-term care facility residents. For now, it is too early to know when we may have additional guidance around vaccine availability for our patients and community. In the meantime, we encourage you to remain vigilant by wearing a mask, practicing good hand hygiene and maintaining social distancing to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Visit our Resource Hub for the latest vaccine-related updates: https://bit.ly/3h6kFQ6

There’s a certain kind of joy watching your little ones play with their holiday toys, but remember to make sure the toys are safe and free of potential hazards ahead of time. Toy-related injuries accounted for more than 200,000 visits to U.S. emergency rooms in 2018. Try to: -Look for toys with a solid, sturdy build and avoid toys that can break, get crushed or pulled apart easily. -Check the label for fire hazards and to ensure the toy has passed a safety inspection. (Tip:... Look for the letters "ASTM" which means it has met the American Society for Testing and Materials standards.) And please avoid: -Toys with small parts and sharp edges -Electric toys with heating elements -Guns or other toys that shoot flying objects -Crayons and markers not clearly labeled "nontoxic" -Toys with ropes and cords

Cold weather can cause extra strain on your heart, so it is important to stay vigilant during the winter months. Dress for warmth, and work at a measured pace when performing strenuous outside chores. If you have heart disease or high blood pressure, consult with a doctor before exerting yourself in cold temperatures. And always listen to your body. Not all chest pain feels the same! Seek care right away if you experience any pain, pressure, squeezing or tightness of the chest.

Although about two-thirds of Americans have a prescription medication, approximately 50% of people do not take their medications as prescribed. It’s America’s other drug problem and can account for up to 50% of treatment failures, around 125,000 deaths, and up to 25% of hospitalizations each year in the United States. Schedule a visit with your doctor and ask about the importance of taking your meds. #TakeYourMeds
