Why is the U.S. map on the Masters' logo so wrong? There is no documented history of the logo's origins. However, the logo seems to date at least as far back as a 1934 poster advertising the First Annual Invitation Tournament at August National Golf Club. The logo in the poster is clearly a rendering of the continental United States, but the proportions are way off-- the coasts are squeezed closer together, the eastern shoreline loses its westward slope and the Great Lakes a...re filled in. We can only speculate how the logo came into existence. Printing technology was very different in the 1930s than it is today; sharp, crisp angles and precise design elements were certainly more difficult to reproduce. A slightly abstracted version of a U.S. map might have been simpler and cheaper to recreate, especially at a smaller size. The design could have also just been that: a designer's hand-drawn, artistic interpretation of a U.S. map. As for why the logo hasn't been updated-- the answer is simple: tradition. What are your thoughts, should the logo be updated or no? Stop by the museum Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to view the assortment of signed Masters' flags displayed in our collection. Right or wrong map-- they are still pretty impressive.
A dream that was born years ago has finally been brought to life! Doug Sanders spent years dreaming of a museum for his collection. In 2016 Doug Sanders had a conversation with the Morris family that led to his dream becoming a reality. On that day in 2016 Doug drew out his vision for a museum on a small napkin and passed it to Daniel Morris-- Today, with the help of the Jamie and Darcy Morris Foundation, that vision has been brought to life! Visit the museum Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00-3:00
This is what we know Doug would be proud of... A generation of golfers passing down their love for the game. "I'm as rich as any man or woman in the world because I weigh and measure my wealth by friends, and golf has given me that opportunity." Doug Sanders
It’s official! Come see us until 5:00 today!
