It's frequently the appearance of pain or signs of infection and/or swelling that first signals to a person that their tooth has a problem. In some cases, there's little indication that there's an issue. But to the trained eye, there can be subtle hints that are an obvious sign to the dentist that a problem likely exists and that there may be the need for a root canal. This is another reason why it's important to visit the dentist for regular check-up's.

Shiver me timbers, matey, it's National Talk Like a Pirate Day! Ye landlubbers wouldn’t know it, but there may have been a reason the scallywags of the 7 seas downed so much grog: their oral health habits were atrocious! Grog was a beverage made of sugar-water, lime juice and rum. The Vitamin C in limes helped pirates prevent scurvy - a disease that causes teeth to fall out. We may not have to worry about scurvy so much, but, we do need to worry about plaque! By not flossing, the bacteria in plaque can effect the gum tissue and bone that support the teeth. This can cause them to become loose, fall out, or have to be removed by a dentist.
