FEBRUARY 1 2019 LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 1.08 FEET, CLEAR DOWN STAINED UP RIVERS, 40S ... Bass fishing is slow. Use some bright colors this week like the crawfish DT 10 crank bias and use 8 pound test line and use a slow retrieve. Start your day by fishing in the mid section of the lake with a small crankbait such as a Norman Deep Baby N in Fire Tiger or a Solid Chartreuse Bandit. Fish these baits on the main lake points using a very slow stop and go retrieve. Also fish jerk baits in these same areas and use the Spro McStick in Table Rock Shad color. This is a very bright chartreuse and purple bait, which will stand out in the muddy water. Be sure to let the bait sit for long periods of time without moving it. If these baits don’t produce, fish the steeper main lake rock banks with a small jig such as a ounce Bass Patrol Football Jig tipped with a Zoom blue or black chunk. See more

DECEMBER 27, 2018 LAKE HARTWELL. CLEAR, 50S Bass fishing is slow. Drop shot rigs are still a favorite along with jigging spoons. This should have changed some... by this weekend as the rains returns. This weather will trigger a shad die off. Crank baits and jigs are all excellent choices during the cold winter months. Fish the Ito Vision 110 jerk bait and do not over fish the bait. Use slow jerks and pause the baits with the cold water conditions all winter. Use a DT10 Rapala in shad color in the clearer water and a hot mustard color in the slightly stained colored water. The key during the colder winter months is to change baits often when the fishing gets slow. Color choices will also be very important. See more

DECEMBER 14, 2018 LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN .64 FEET, CLEAR, 50S Bass fishing is fair. The weather is cold and cloudy many days and this will let the bass start roa...ming between the shallows and secondary points. Use the crankbaits and under spins and find the bait schools. As the dropping lake levels start, this will have the bass staging on the drops between 20 and 30 feet, and you can catch them on Carolina rigs and drop shots. The water has enough for the jigging spoons. The birds are starting to show up more on the lake, so keep an eye out for this, and fish around that area until you find the bait and the bass. Be sure to rely on the Lowrance Structure Scan technology to scan a lot of water looking for bait schools. See more

DECEMBER 7, 2018 LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 1.72 FEET, CLEAR, 50S Bass fishing is good. The fish are starting to move into the creeks. Look for some schooling activity in the creeks as well as the main lake. Use the 1/2 ounce Fish Head Spin in pearl white and albino colors trailed with a matching super Fluke Jr as well as a herring colored jerk bait. Also, keep a drop shot or a spoon handy to drop vertically on fish you see on your graph. There are some fish in the creeks and skip...ping a brown 3/8 ounce Sworming Hornet stinger jig on rocky points and shallow docks with deeper water close by will work. Use a Zoom twin tail grub in green pumpkin and make sure to use JJ's Magic to dye the tips Chartreuse. The ditch bite has not kicked in strongly yet on Hartwell, but with the water temperatures continuing to drop, it shouldn't be long before this bite gets going See more
