"I chose athletic training because of the impact my high school athletic trainer had on me. Seeing him helping students mentally and physically showed me what I could do for other students and hopefully positively impact their lives. The best part of being an athletic trainer is getting to see my student athletes every single day out playing the game they love and being a part of an emotional and medical support system for them." ~ Brooke Ward SCAT, ATC ... Happy National Athletic Training Month! We are celebrating by taking a time out with some of our athletic trainers to find out what athletic training means to them. Our athletic trainers and clinical staff work closely together and are committed to providing superior sports medicine services. #NATM2021 #upstreamfamily

Many athletes suffer from shin splints, particularly runners. The most common reason is the repetitive stress that occurs when the foot hits the ground and causes the arch to collapse. This movement makes the foot to roll inward and creates a bending force through the shin bone (tibia). Repetition of this creates an inflammatory reaction that leads to pain and, if not managed, eventually can lead to fracture. These three tips can help athletes prevent this painful situation: https://bit.ly/2Pufq2O
