EAST VIEW CEMETERY is a private, not for profit cemetery, owned by the East View Cemetery Association, that was organized over 40 years ago by interested families with the goal of reclaiming the property from the overgrown and public dumping site it had become. With time our family volunteers have shrunk to a very small number who are physically able to help maintain the grounds over and above the landscaping services for which we pay from the donations we receive. To keep th...is wonderful green space in East Lake, we need help from the surrounding area by whoever regularly enjoys this special place. East View Cemetery has put a clipboard at the front of the white office building with numerous projects for neighborhood volunteers to do at a time of their own choosing. We have been told there are people in the area who walk the cemetery grounds frequently and are interested in helping our very small group of EVCA volunteers, but are unable to come out on the 2nd Saturday March through December. This list of work projects has been posted by Leroy Gardner who has provided his phone number if you have more questions. It includes work such as picking up branches, trash, etc., cleaning off the drain grates on the street in front of the main entrance and removing vines from fences, etc. Where there are special projects within a certain area of the cemetery, he has provided location markers/directions. Since the house and the tool shed will not be open, you will need to provide your own trash bags (preferably paper yard bags) and whatever tools you need for the particular work you choose to do. Leroy will regularly update the list on the clipboard. You may want to initial a job you have done on his list. Louise Story, Secretary East View Cemetery Association

The scheduled work day for May has been canceled. This was planned to also be Remembrance Day when people bring flowers to put on their family's graves. Due to the "shelter in place" being extended longer for those of us who are over 65, and all of the cemetery officers and most of the volunteers are over 65, it was decided to wait until June 13 to assemble for work day. You are still welcome to bring flowers and put them on the graves at your convenience. We hope to see you in June.

Again this fall we have been blessed by the Boy Scouts who volunteered their services on two workdays. Their parents and scout leaders also pitched in. We are very grateful for all they do in the cemetery at this time of the year, as the number of regular workday cemetery volunteers continues to be very low. We are all getting older and some are physically unable to help out on workdays. Workdays involve weed eating, hauling trash, raking and bagging leaves, cutting smaller t...ree limbs, trimming shrubs, removing/spraying ivy encroachments, sweeping debris from around headstones and whatever else needs to be done. Those present seem to enjoy the day and make time to reminisce about their deceased loved ones and other memories of the area. The winter Semi-Annual meeting of the East View Cemetery Association will be January 18, 2020, 10 AM in our little building at 56 4th Avenue SE. We welcome anyone interested in the ongoing responsibilities of the cemetery. Bring any ideas you have for increasing our membership and creating a long term plan for the continuation of the association when the volunteers are no longer available for all that we currently do on behalf of the cemetery. The current board and volunteers are dedicated and work hard to see that the funds are used in the most advantageous way for the wonderful place the cemetery has become after being reclaimed from severe neglect in the past. We appreciate your contributions both financial and labors of love that have helped the association with the ongoing expenditures of grass cutting service, utilities, insurance, termite service and buying supplies for workdays. Large fallen trees and/or large limbs were removed and a water leak was repaired. We had a very successful plant sale in the spring and also brought in some money from providing parking during the PGA East Lake golf tour. If there are families who plan to inter remains in the future at the cemetery, we would like to know. For those who do not know where the intended vacant grave space is located, a few volunteers are available to help. We would appreciate being informed of this need well in advance of an actual burial so we can obtain the information at a time of our choosing to have easily available when needed. It can be a burden on our volunteers to find a grave site in bad weather or very short notice, It is very important to have grave markers in the cemetery. Over time, unmarked graves can become impossible to locate. A reminder that East View is not a perpetual care cemetery. The association is a 501 (c) (13) non-profit organization for the purpose of maintaining the cemetery grounds. Volunteers of the East View Cemetery Association will be having a Plant Sale on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 8 am to 2 pm. The location of the plant sale will be: 26 Spence Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30317, near the corner of Spence and Hosea Williams Blvd. This is a private residence, and not at the cemetery. This sale will be at the same time as residents of the East Lake community will be having yard sales.

The December 8 work day has been rescheduled for December 15 due to the forecast of heavy rain, cold and windy. Saturday the 8th would not be a good day for raking and bagging the many leaves in the cemetery, street and covering the storm drains. Much help is needed during this season to keep the cemetery clean, neat and welcoming to visitors and relatives of the those buried at East View. Volunteers are welcome to come between 10 am and 4 pm. There will be bottled water and a few snacks in the cemetery office. There are some tools available but feel free to bring your own. East View Cemetery is a non-profit cemetery and does not have perpetual care.

The East View Cemetery Association wishes to honor and remember those who fought in, and lost their lives in, America's wars and conflicts. We remember those who fell in the Civil War (on both sides), World Wars 1 and 2, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and all the conflicts on foreign soil for the sake of those at home.
