We have been doing this in every tile installation since I saw it at a builders convention in San Francisco. It has Never gave me any problems or a return call with this design. Pay a little extra for another layer of water protection will save headaches down the road if the tile cracks.

New ideas are coming out every year. I learned about this product at a Builders Convention We were able to get the chance to build a home in the Bay Area that the basement and garage were under the ground level. The temperature of the basement was actually warmer due to the R- Value the concrete forms give. It can cost a little upfront but in the long run it will pay for itself with the low electrical bill.
