Read more about the company here: Our January Business Spotlight shines on EC Signs, Inc., locate...d in a 6,000-square-foot facility at 520 Industrial Way #C, just off Tolbert Street. Owned by Joey Elzey, a Forsyth County native, EC Signs provides a wide range of products and services that can help meet any sign need. The business offers state-of-the-art, computer-aided sign making systems and designers to help the customer fulfill their sign needs from start to finish. Among the types of signs the business can create are those with sandblasted and routed letter designs, architectural signs with various types of framing, electronic messaging boards, street signs, banners, vehicle wraps and more. Joey says there’s really nothing that he and his team of two long-time employees Leigh Gilbert and Thomas Murray can’t tackle. Since the business opened in 1998, they’ve worked on projects of all shapes, sizes, colors and types for clients ranging from private individuals and neighborhoods to schools and businessesand everything in between. While the team is small, Joey says it works well. We all wear a lot of different hats and do whatever needs to be done, he said. Besides the great team, EC Signs also utilizes a range of modern equipment including several large-scale printers and a bucket truck to handle any type and size of job. While EC Signs has always been located just off Tolbert Street, in the beginning it was located in a much smaller facility. Our old facility was about 3,600 square feet and now we’re in this building, which is almost double that, Joey said. That move was made about 13 years ago. Like most businesses in recent years, EC Signs has had its ups and downs. Joey said when the company first moved into the larger facility, he had more than double the number of employees he currently has. But when the recession hit a couple of years after that, the company had to downsize. Luckily, the uptick in the economy the past few years has positively impacted the sign business, like so many others, and now they are looking to probably hire one or two more employees soon. Four or five employees is really the best number for us to be at, so we want to get back to those numbers soon, Joey said. A graduate of Forsyth County High School (now Forsyth Central High), Joey went on to receive a degree in visual communications. After college, he went on to work a few years for another sign company, but his goal was always to own his own company. Not long after finishing school, that goal became reality with EC Signs. Interestingly, Joey grew up in the Tolbert Street area. He said it’s been fun to watch all of the changes in the area over the years. There has been so much growth and development in the City of Cumming and Forsyth County, it’s been really something to see, he said. Joey believes in helping his home community as much as he can. Among some of the clients EC Signs has worked with are the Cumming Fairgrounds, Cumming and Forsyth County Recreation Departments, Forsyth County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office, most of the schools in the county, and numerous student sport teams and organizations.
