4 Tax-Smart Investment Moves for Higher Earners If you earn a lot of money, you may also pay a lot in taxes a fact that’s particularly relevant during tax-filing season. If you want to change your tax outlook for the years ahead, you can make several moves. First, try to fully fund your 401(k) each year. Both traditional and Roth 401(k)s offer tax advantages.... If you earn too much to contribute to a Roth IRA, which can provide tax-free earnings, you could possibly put money into a traditional IRA and then convert it to a Roth. This has tax consequences, so consult with your tax advisor. You also might want to follow a buy-and-hold strategy, so when you sell investments, you’ll pay the long-term capital gains rate, which is probably more favorable than the rate you’d pay for selling investments you’ve owned one year or less. Another suggestion: Consider tax-efficient mutual funds, which do less trading and generate fewer taxes. As your financial advisor, I, along with your tax advisors, can help you determine if these moves make sense for your needs. If they do, consider incorporating them into your long-term investment strategy.

3 Ways Remote Work May Offer Financial Benefits (and what to do with those savings!) Have you been working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic? ... If so, you might be getting used to it, and even when it’s over, you may have the option of remote work. This can affect your life in many ways and it could bring some financial advantages, too. Just consider transportation costs: The average commuter spends $2,000 to $5,000 per year going to and from work, according to government data. If you’re working from home, you could save a lot by keeping your car in the driveway. And if you drastically reduce your driving, you might qualify for lower insurance rates, too. Plus, you could save even more by not eating out when you’re working from an office. What to do with these savings? You could invest some of it in your IRA and your 401(k) or other employer-sponsored retirement plan. And you might also be able to build an emergency fund to help pay for things like a major car repair. Becoming an at-home worker will no doubt require some adjustments on your part but, in strictly financial terms, it could lead to some positive results. Send me a message to review the top 5 strategies to make your money work better for you!
