Children’s Time with Bishop Kevin L. Strickland

Southeastern Synod ELCA 18.10.2020

WORD FROM BISHOP STRICKLAND on COVID-19 and Synod Staff: Over 10 million people alone in the United States have contracted the COVID-19 virus. A daily growing number of over 239k people have died. Just last week alone there were over 100k cases in one day. Even among our own staff we have not been strangers to this virus and its deep concerns. Given these stark numbers and out of a deep and abiding care and concern for each of you and your health, I have made the following de...cisions. -The Synod Office will remain physically closed until January 18th and then accessing. Staff will continue to work from home and go into the office to pick-up or drop things off. -The in-person All Staff Lunch and Meeting scheduled for December 15th 11-3pm at Christ the King, Peachtree Corners, GA will be cancelled and moved to zoom. -Other than the ordinations I have in December and one installation, all staff travel will cease until January 18th. -We will continue to offer weekly sermons for the synod to use that are available on our website and YouTube channel. -The Synod COVID-19 working group will be meeting soon to discuss next step recommendations for congregations and including ecumenical worship resources. -Advice I gave to the synod in September: I urge you to stop at whatever phase you are currently in and live there for the next few months. Continue taking all the precautions you already are to mitigate any further risk for at least the remainder of 2020. Continue to practice physical distancing, wearing masks, and practicing safe and healthy practices. For more information: https://www.elca-ses.org/covid
