The Department of Medicine is pleased to share that Thomas Ziegler, MD, professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Lipids, has received the annual American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) Jonathan E. On March 30, 2021, Carlos del Rio, MD, Distinguished Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, had the honor of administering Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ first COVID-19 vaccine dose! The vaccine administration took place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Downtown Atlanta, a new mass vaccination center for the city. Emory University is participating in a Phase I clinical trial testing the safety and immune responses of a vaccine against the B.1.351 variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Shanthi Srinivasan, MD, director of the Division of Digestive Diseases and professor of medicine, is the recipient of the Veterans Affairs Biomedical Laboratory R&D Senior Clinician Scientist Investigator Award for her project, Mechanism of GDNF regulation of Hepatic Steatosis. Our Emory Health Heroes are amazing!
Emory University will enroll adult volunteers in a large-scale clinical trial designed to evaluate whether a single dose of an investigational vaccine can prevent symptomatic COVID-19. The vaccine candidate, developed by the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, moved to Phase 3 trials after encouraging results from an earlier clinical study.
