After months of networking, researching employers, fine tuning applications, and preparing for interviews, I was fortunate to join a large law firm as a 1L summer associate. An essential component of my recruitment journey was seeking out guidance from students, attorneys, and the Career Center. In the months before OCI, I connected with 2L and 3L students who had interned for my desired employers. I asked about practice areas, workplace culture, interview tips, and return of...fers for interns. I also joined a local bar association's mentoring program, which paired me with an attorney who provided valuable recruitment insight. During OCI, I consulted frequently with my Career Center advisor for feedback on my strategy and decision-making. The guidance I received from all of these individuals was crucial to my success in recruiting. I encourage incoming 1Ls to lean on members of the Emory Law community as they begin their own recruitment journeys! Nick Barker 2L - virtual Workspace
Student Blog: After being turned down by a minority fair, four judicial courts, 13 law firms, and countless companies, if there was any hope inside me, that hope was stricken down by the virus. I was desperate. If I cannot find a position during normal time, what are my chances during quarantine? However, my career advisor encouraged me to keep going. It's never the end until you quit. So I kept checking for new positions on any source I can find. I booked four job alarms that sent me emails for newly posted vacancies. Finally, a small firm offered me a position. I know it's nothing to brag about, but I cannot describe how exciting It was. Thank god I didn't just give up! Chen Jianyu 2L
