Tips for cooling off horses who suffer from anhydrosis, or any condition such as PPID that may cause over heating during the hot months: 1. Body clip every few weeks spring to fall. I know that is a lot of work, but it makes a big difference. 2. Of course you can hose with cool water. Don't be tempted to put cold water right on the back of the horse. You don't want to shock them. The trick to is to hose one time, scrape that water off as it will take some of the body heat aw...ay from the horse, then hose a second time and leave the water on the horse. Do not scrape the water off the second time. 3. You can also pour rubbing alcohol on the horse's back and large muscle groups. 4. One more trick we use is that I have several sets of EZ ice tendon boots. We put them on the lower legs. The horse will instantly cool off. They have a lot of veins in their legs, so the blood will cool and go through out his system. Here is the link: https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/ez-ice-tendon-wrap-19967 See more
