Immy’s first time xc schooling! She was very good. The water complex was the most reaction I got from her. Didn’t know what the waves splashing against the sides were. She found out she wouldn’t die, so she went right back in. We did ditches and banks too with no problem. Very proud of my spotted wonder! Joni Bales

Friday, Blythe and The Starboard’s (Dewey)lovely dressage test at the Area 3 Championships. They were sitting in 5th out of twenty and only 2 pts out of 1st place. Little did we know an abscess was brewing! He was more unwilling to go forward in his dressage test. You can see how much she’s having to use her legs to keep him forward (not allowed to carry a whip in championships), but no lame steps. Then Saturday xc he had a refusal and was acting like he used to about not wa...nting to leave the group. Hadn’t done that in quite awhile, but again no lame steps. Then today, he warmed up beautifully in stadium, so they stopped and waited for her turn by the in gate. They walked into the arena, and Dewey was not just a little off, but really off on his left front. Blythe, as a good horseman would, excused herself. We took him up to the farrier to test his foot, and very obvious. I think the softer footing filled his hoof and put more pressure on his sole. On the harder ground in warmup, his shoe kept his sole off the ground, so he could tolerate it. Not how we wanted it to go, but glad it’s not something worse. Competed Saturday at Ashland Farm’s Schooling show on Hope Phillips Kilgore’s horse Snoopy Rocks. This was his first 3 phase, and he was so game! The cross country course was challenging, and we finished 3rd out of six! We improved our dressage score from our last CT by 6 points to earn a 32.7. He was much more relaxed and it showed. Thank you Big Cheese Eventing for bringing these shows back. Beautiful venue and well organized!

We viewed a gorgeous sunrise halfway to Aiken, SC heading to a schooling show at The Vista. I was pleased with both horses, but due to some lively goings on in ...the parking area which was right next to warm up, both horses were a bit tense in their dressage tests. Got close to 60% in both of Tiz’s tests, but he was tense through his back and just couldn’t let go and breath. Snoopy was tense in dressage too, but no where near how hot he was the last show, and he did his first BN jumping round and was stellar! We’ve been working hard to stay soft in front of just cross rails, and he’s finally understanding you don’t have to rush and jump hard. Thank you Hope Phillips Kilgore for entrusting Snoopy with me. I never get tired of saying how proud I am of my students! This sport is hard, and to have 2 students in the ribbons out of 17 horses in their division is awes...ome. Blythe and Dewey had a really nice dressage test and led the division wire to wire. She only had a 1 pt lead going into show jumping. She kept her cool and Dewey kept up all the rails! After having a really nice warm-up, Maddie and Savannah had some arguments in their dressage test (girls will be girls),so their score wasn’t the best; however, Maddie dug in and had a clean xc and only one rail in SJ to move up to 8th! Student, Blythe Minshew and The Starboard, aka Dewey, qualified for the American Eventing Champiomships this weekend at Chatt Hills! She showed such maturity a...nd confidence in her decisions. Dewey is a skeptical horse and takes some finesse to keep his confidence in the jumping phases. She is learning true horsemanship skills. The test is being able to put them into practice under pressure, and she passed! So proud of you! Thank you Terri Cromer Gibson for allowing Blythe to ride such a wonderful horse. I coached Maddie Anthony and Savannah at the Chatt Hills HT this past weekend. This is only their 2nd recognized show and it was packed with competitors. She’s ...shown in some schooling shows , but until this show, they haven’t been able to finish on their dressage score (no jumping or time penalties) Goal accomplished plus several other personal goals met. The pair finished in 6th place out of 17 riders. Way to go you two! Warmed my heart to see how the maturity and confidence has grown in Maddie. Congratulations! See more
