I finally had time to harvest some plants I have been wanting to distill this week, including lemongrass. This is one of my favorite herbs to run a distillation with. The plant water or hydrosol that comes through the still is surprisingly aromatic, sweet lemony and very uplifting. This time of year I really appreciate using wood fired planters like the one pictured here made by my husband, potter, Geoff Pickett. Our newest salve is a blend of comfrey and self heal leaves infused in organic olive oil, combined with local beeswax, essential oils of helichrysum, Roman chamomile and peppermint. Designed to help soothe and support tired muscles and inflamed skin. Self heal herb is also known as Prunella. Peppermint hydrosol distilled from our plants in the copper still earlier this season is now available in a one ounce spray bottle. Makes a nice aromatic spray for fall and winter. Helpful for sealing in moisture to the skin and can be used in combination with a cream, lotion or salve.
