Maddie is a former competitive soccer player with a strong background in fitness. She leads our youth program for ages 12-18 in Mondays and Thursdays at 6:30 PM

Here is a question that I get asked a lot..... Q: I work out regularly so I can enjoy my favorite foods. Does it really matter what I eat, as long as I don’t eat too much?! A: Hate to break it to you, but YES!... I hear this question all the time, and I totally get it. Food is often valued by how many calories it contains. But your food is WAY MORE than its calories! It plays a big role in your overall health. Some foods especially veggies, lean proteins, healthy fats, and unprocessed grains contain more of the nutrients and micronutrients you need to be healthy AND fight inflammation in your body. And other foods mainly high-sugar, high-fat, high-salt, and highly processed ones contain a lot of empty calories that can actually PROMOTE inflammation in your body. They can slow down your workout recovery AND you might even notice more aches and pains when you eat them! But that doesn’t mean you can NEVER have your favorite foods. you ALL know I enjoy my pizza, hamburgers, wine, fries, and Reese Peanut Butter Cups :) Just make sure you eat a good base of healthy foods 80% to 90% of your overall diet. Then, you won’t feel guilty if you indulge in an occasional treat. NOTE: Keep your goals in mind because portion sizes still matter! And also run away from programs/trainers who tell you that you can never have a treat or who are constantly promoting diets. It is so important to learn how to make it a lifestyle change and NOT a quick fix! I have seen so many clients who suffer from disordered eating due to many years of being told certain foods are forbidden or who jump from fad diet to fad diet. Life is too short not to enjoy treats :)

Monday motivation ! I did NOT feel like working out this morning!! I was tired, in a cranky mood, sluggish, and just feeling blah! I had to force myself to get started. But once I got started and those endorphins flooded in I realized how much I actually needed to workout this morning. I feel energized and my mood has changed dramatically!! Those days where you’re dragging and you just don’t feel like getting that workout in, those are often the days that you need it most. Don’t skip those days. Discipline yourself to do it, no matter if you feel like doing it tonight. You will never regret it and you always feel % better!

You will NEVER have long term weight loss with fad diets. It’s a fact. If you drop a bunch of weight in a short period of time, you did not lose fat- you lost muscle. You do NOT want to do that. Or it’s water weight........ If you want to lose weight you MUST change your lifestyle. There is no other way! When a friend is telling you about all the weight she lost in a short period of time and wants to tell you her secret- that is code for fad diet. Do not fall into the temptation. Weight loss is not quick. It takes time. You have to be PATIENT and trust the process. If you want to lose weight and KEEP IT OFF you have to change the way you eat, you have to change your relationship with food, you have to learn to love yourself, and you have to exercise. . And that my friends is TRUTH!

You are just as beautiful, just as smart, just as attractive, just as sexy, just as WANTED as your full figured sisters. Do not believe the "supposed" studies, memes, or anything other body shaming stuff that gets passed around. And no you do not "need" to eat a cheeseburger...... You were created the way you were created. You are perfect the way you are- all of you!... Women, we are supposed to lift each other up, not tear each other down. Be careful of some of the things that you "share" on FB. Each of us were wonderfully made. We all come in different shapes and sizes. Focus on health, not size. ALL WOMEN ARE REAL!! #stopbodyshaming
