Many if not most in Christendom try to escape the Bible's teaching that baptism is a salvation event by declaring that all NT texts that connect baptism with salvation are talking about baptism in the Holy Spirit, not baptism in water. Here is my response to this serious error (created by Huldreich Zwingli, c. A.D. 1525): There is only ONE BAPTISM (Eph. 4:5), but that one event has both an outside (baptized in water) and an inside (baptized in the Spirit). These are a single unified event. To use a statement Jesus made about another kind of unity, "What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate" (Matt. 19:6, ESV). Jack Cottrell
