We had to postpone our Spring Lecture Series event with author and Flannery O'Connor scholar Angela Alaimo O’Donnell, Ph.D. We will be rescheduling her, but in the meantime, she is hosting a three-part online discussion of O'Connor's journey as a Christian. Here are the details >> https://www.eventbrite.com/e/flannery-oconnor-in-search-of-
In "The Habit of Being," our muse Flannery O'Connor wrote, I can, with one eye squinted, take it all as a blessing. And that's how we are approaching this moment in time, even though our doors remain closed and we miss welcoming guests into her childhood home. The important work of preserving her home and legacy, however, continues and we hope you'll consider the home during this Week of Giving. https://www.flanneryoconnorhome.org/support #GivingTuesdayNow

Happy 95th birthday to our own patron saint of the struggle, the misfit, the grotesque. We hope everyone can find some solace and inspiration in the words of Flannery O'Connor during these changing times.
FLANNERY O'CONNOR CHILDHOOD HOME SUSPENDS MUSEUM HOURS AND PROGRAMS SAVANNAH, GA In a pre-emptive measure to protect visitors, volunteers and staff from the rapidly evolving and uncertain nature of the COVID-19 virus, the Flannery O'Connor Childhood Home announced today that it will suspend visiting hours and programming, effective immediately through March 31, 2020. The home has had no reported cases of infection on its premises, but has decided to take this precautiona...ry measure. "The Flannery O'Connor Childhood Home takes pride in being a small part of Savannah's vibrant cultural landscape and community," says Cody Shelley, the home's foundation manager. "The best thing we can do for that community is follow the advice of experts and practice social distancing to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. I will miss welcoming visitors to Flannery's home, but I am confident this difficult decision is the right one to make." Shelley and the foundation's board will continue to monitor and re-evaluate the situation as new information is made available, and will share updates to museum hours and rescheduled programs on its website and social media platforms. *** The Flannery O’Connor Home Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to preserving the birthplace of author Flannery O’Connor and providing educational opportunities through guided tours, informative lectures and literary events. The Foundation encourages the discovery and exploration of O’Connor’s rich body of work and the interpretation of her writing by contemporary readers, authors and artists. Cody Shelley, Foundation Manager Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home [email protected] 912-233-6014 SPRING LECTURES AND BIRTHDAY PARTY AND PARADE POSTPONED SAVANNAH, GA Out of an abundance of caution and respect for patrons and guests in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the board of the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home announced today that it has postponed its planned March events. Because the house welcomes so many visitors from all over the world, especially during the tourist season of March and April, the board followed the city’s lead and the federal government’s recommendation to limit large gatherings for the time being, says Cody Shelley, foundation manager for the house museum. The Spring Lecture Series event, Our Prince of Scribes: Writers Remember Pat Conroy featuring Jonathan Haupt, John Warley and Sallie Ann Robinson, slated for this 4 p.m., Sunday, March 15, will be rescheduled. A new date has not been set but will be announced soon. The visit by children’s book author Amy Alznauer and illustrator Ping Zhu, creators of the picture book The Strange Birds of Flannery O’Connor: A Life, set for Saturday, March 21, has been cancelled. If it is possible to reschedule this event, details will be forthcoming. The annual Birthday Party and Parade, set for Lafayette Square on Sunday, March 22, has been tentatively rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27, Flannery O’Connor’s half-birthday, pending permit approvals. The Local Author Day, co-sponsored with The Book Lady Bookstore, will also be rescheduled for this day. This was a difficult but important decision, and made in deference to the safety of our Savannah community, affirms Shelley.
