Elder Spotlight Glen Jackson has served as an elder at Fountain Church since its start. He is a co-founder and was the previous co-owner of Jackson Heating and Air for over 40 years. He enjoys working around the church building, going to his grandchildren’s sporting events, and camping with his family. When asked what his vision for local and global missions are Glen responded, That we become a church that truly cares for the spiritual needs of the community to share the ...gospel of Jesus. That we become a people who are known by our desire to know Jesus and become a praying church. I have a love for Uganda and am always excited to see the work the Lord is doing in that country. I enjoy taking people on mission to visit the churches there. When asked how he has been able to serve the church through eldership Glen responded, The way I feel I best serve the body at Fountain is through prayer, helping with future vision, being a community group leader, and addressing building needs. We are thankful for Glen and his dedication and service to Fountain Church!

When my children were "children" there were a few national tragedies, but they didn't happen often. It seems that every few months there is something absolutel...y crazy happening that we could never have imagined. Our children are being bombarded with one upsetting incident after another. I truly fear for their emotional well-being at times. Some parents may be looking to you for help or you may just want to encourage them as they navigate raising their precious children in this fallen and broken world. Here are a few tips I've shared with my children who are all parents now themselves and I would like to share them with you. 1 - Turn off the news media. When tragedies such as what happened yesterday occur, some people want to watch live news media and see every detail as it unfolds. This isn't healthy for anyone, but especially not for children. It's okay to give children a brief description of what has happened, but do not fall prey to the sensationalism that will be portrayed for good ratings. 2 - Do allow your child to talk about what they may have seen or heard on media or from others. Talk with your child in a calm voice reassuring them and clear up any misconceptions they may have. Be honest and respectful and let the child know they can come talk with you at any time as they have questions. 3 - Open your Bible and share some verses that may be helpful. Some that I think of are John 16:33, I Peter 5:7, Romans 15:13, and Philippians 4:7. Pray with your child always, but especially if they seem troubled. 4 - Children take their emotional cues from their parents and loved ones. If you're overly disturbed by events, your children (no matter their age) will pick up on your thoughts and behave accordingly. Be sure that you don't dwell on the difficulties and problems we face as a nation, but remember where our HOPE comes. 5 - Make sure that you and your child get outside and get some exercise. Fresh air and movement always help each of us feel better. Go for a walk, ride bikes, or play chase in the yard. Just have a good time without worrying. Kids need to be kids - let them play!! 6 - As much as possible, keep your children in their same routine. During the last nine months it seems our "routine" keeps changing. But children are usually reassured when their schedules are kept the same. 7 - Every child is different and parents should understand that each one will react to tragedies in different ways. Some will want to talk about it and others will keep it in. Some will "act out" and others will become even more compliant. Parents should make extra time to help their child process what's going on. I'm praying for you as you help equip parents to be the spiritual leaders in their homes. See more
