Covid-19 Vaccine and Food Allergy Patients With the new Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine available in the UK, there have been 2 reported cases of allergic reactions in patients with allergy history. We do not currently have all the details of these 2 reactions, and it is unknown if these were immediate or delayed responses. We want to provide information on what we currently know:... -- There is concern regarding contraindication for Covid-19 vaccination and patients with food allergies, but we want to reassure our patients and parents that there is no need to worry as specific details of the reactions are unknown currently. -- According to the MHRA in the UK (similar to CDC in US) and British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, patients with a food allergy or a single medication allergy are not believed to be at significantly increased risk of an allergic reaction to the vaccine. When the vaccine becomes available in the US, we will evaluate the recommendations and regulations for all patients. There is a possibility our allergy clinic may give the vaccine once available and observe patients in clinic for a period of time. (For example, there was previous contraindication for flu vaccination in patients with history of severe egg allergy. Current recommendations from organizations, such as the CDC and American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI) are that these patients can safely receive the flu shot in a medical setting.) Meet the Staff Spotlight: Angela is a newly licensed Registered Nurse with 8 years as a Licensed Practical nurse. She is experienced in pediatrics, family practice, obstetrics and surgery. Angela will usually be seen at the front desk for scheduling or helping with patients in back when needed. She is originally from California but now calls Georgia home. Outside of work she is a mother of two and enjoys spending time outdoors, especially finding new trails to explore and kayaking.

The Food and Drug Administration has just approved the use of Dupixent, or dupilumab, for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis/eczema in children over the age of 6. Dupixent is indicated for eczema that is not well controlled with topical medication, as well as moderate-to severe asthma in patients over 12 years old and chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps. Dupixent is proven to show relief of itching and severity of eczema within the first two weeks of use, wi...th many patients having more than 80% improvement in their skin condition. Freedom Allergy has been using Dupixent successfully for patients over 12 years of age and will now begin to use it for patients over 6 years of age that need treatment uncontrolled eczema. Eczema (also known as atopic dermatitis, or atopic eczema) is a chronic skin condition in which the skin becomes itchy, red, cracked and dry, with scaly patches, that may open and ooze. Eczema mainly affects children, but it can continue into adulthood or start later in life. It commonly appears on skin of the face, inside of the elbows or behind the knees, but can appear anywhere on the body. There is no cure for eczema, but there are treatments that help to manage the symptoms. Moisturizing regiments, managing allergies, avoiding triggers and the use of topical steroids and immunomodulators can help to alleviate symptoms, but sometimes that is not enough for more significant eczema. We are sad to share that our Marietta office location will NOT be reopened. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta notified us today that they cannot continue to lease out the medical space, due to COVID-19 and anticipated lease expiration later this year. Therefore, we are forced to close the Marietta location. We will be trying our best to find another location nearby, however we do not have any timing with regards to this yet. We encourage our Marietta patients to come to our... Peachtree City office location for appointments. We will also continue to provide telemedicine appointments.
